So, I've been running a Leupold Mark 4 2.5-8 for the last few years on my rifle (25-500 m matches), and while it has performed well, I want something new. I was looking at the Vortex Razor HD Gen II 3-18x50 as it has all the features I want, being a FFP reticule, Miliradian adjustments, Zero Stop and I like the EBR-2C (MRAD) reticule. From what I've seen, the optical clarity and over all performance of the scope is very good.

What is holding me back is the extremely high weight (almost 3 lb!). I've looked around, and have also been contemplating a Nightforce 2.5-10x32 or Kahles K312II 3-12x50, as they appear to also have the features I'm looking for. Unfortunately I don't have any first hand experience with the new Kahles scopes (have a few 20+ year old ones) or Nightforce scopes. I've owned one of the Gen 1 Razor HD scopes and was very happy with its performance, so that's why I was leaning towards the Vortex at first.

So, what are you guys using, and what do you suggest? Anything else I should look at? Budget isn't a big deal as I'll be cleaning out a few guns I'm not using.

Oh, I should also mention that the rifle is a semi-auto .223.

Not an expert here but I'm pretty sure you have to use irons for service rifle... Specifically the ones on a m1a, garand, or ar.

If it's for match rifle I would see if fellow competitors will let you have a look at their equipment. This is the only way you'll know what works best for you.

Service rifle?

I am not sure about the type of competitions that you have been shooting. Anyone that I know who shoots "Service Rifle" is shooting irons. I am curious as to what you are involved in.
My own favorite scope for an AR is a Trijicon TA01.
Not for Service rifle matches.

Canada

Our OP, though, is from Canada....and it seems that his "service rifle" matches are probably not NRA/CMP.

Scope

Ar180: Can you supply a description of the course of fire.
Regardless....I am inclined to stay with the Trijicon ACOG if I need a scope.
