Hey guys - I have an odd problem. Even with a scope that has 4" eye relief, I can't seem to mount my scope far forward enough so that when I place my cheek on the stock/butt of the rifle, I still am too close with my eye to get a good sight picture. I find myself pulling my head back along the cheekpiece and when I get a good sight picture, it just doesn't feel like my cheek and head are in a comfortable, natural position.

I am using a Tikka Whitetail hunter (but I have this problem on all my rifles with scopes - Tikka T3, Ruger 10/22 with Fajen adjustable stock adjusted all the way out for LOP, etc.)

I have a STD dovetail mount on the Tikka, and Leupold Extension ring (front), with the scope rings mounted on the rifle/scope as far forward as it can get.

My question - if I got a rear dovetail mount, and then got an additional extension ring for the rear, would that work? It seems that it would give me an addition 5/8" or more to push it forward away from my eye, which might be enough.

Here are the items in question:

I'd mount these on the receiver of the tikka - it would also give me two different holes on each base for the dovetails.

And then here are the extension rings:

I already have one set, and would simply replace the current non-extension read ring with the extension dovetail once I swapped bases.

Think this would work for me?

Are you farsighted? Seriously, it may be you and not the mount/scope.

Any scope I have ever used would have a good sight picture within the given area allowed by the mount. I wouldn't know about any extensions. It kind of looks like the same type of disadvantage of see-through mounts. I don't think your scope mount would be as durable to an impact or shock.

It's not THAT bad :) I think I just need an extra .5" - 1"

Already have the rifle, a nice Zeiss scope that is perfect for me, and need something that will give me at least 6x of magnification. So once I get the eye relief fixed I should be good.

Maybe an extra inch of buttpad length would help.

The buttpad might be a good option without taking away from the integrity of the mounts. Limbsaver (same as the R3 pad) makes a really good slip on that should give you what you need.
