I just put new rings on my Ruger 10/22, Weaver top mount low rings. I am using a 4x 32 scope and the bell is sitting on the rear iron sight when folded down. Will this cause any issues? I would like to upgrade to a better scope later on. But my current concern is about the objective bell possibly sustaining damage from the sight being so close.

I would take off the scope and just drift out the rear sight or else switch to medium height rings.

Yep...

Remove the scope and take a brass punch. Light taps and just drive it from the left to the right. Keep ahold of it for later use.

Please PLease PLease don't go buy those junk see-through rings. A scope is to mounted as close to the barrel as possible not a mile above it.

+1. If you dont want to look at the notch once the sight is drifted out, Brownells sells a dove-tail blank for that very purpose. Out with the sight, in with the blank.

Thanks for the replies, I like the idea of the blank dove tail to make it look better than a chunk missing.

+1 with the Talley rings if you want to upgrade. I also have the low set on mine with a 32 obj. scope, it clears the sight by a hair, but you might need different eye relief than me. It would hit if I pulled it back further.

Madcratebuilder, where did you get that bullet mag release????

Thanks.

Nah. Those Weaver Top Mount low's that you have are as strong as any ring needs to be. I have them on several rifles and one pistol, and they do the job even on the big thumpers. I have seen numerous very heavily used PH EDC guns in the Gunzines, likely in .375 H&H or larger wearing Weaver Top Mounts. They are made of that rare "steel" stuff that we rarely see anymore.

That .22 is not going to budge them.

I made it with a tip of a 5.56 bullet. It's easy to do, you well need a drill bit, tap and the screw. You of course have to thread into the lead core of the bullet so I used a bit of JP Weld when I screwed it together for additional strength.

Got it sighted in and ended moving the scope forward, clears the rear sight perfectly now. Thanks again and sweet bullet release, only thing I have ever seen close to it was the 45 case bolt handle.
