Hello,

I would like to purchase a scope for my Marlin rifles. They have a low ridge on the receivers for scope mounting. I have a .22 mag 982 and two Model 60 type rifles. These are not high end rifles so a scope eclipsing the cost of the rifle isnt in my budget.

What scope/rings do I need? Help me out pls.

Someone mentioned this... Leupold 2x7 Rimfire which is fine and maybe for the .22 mag only as it is a lot more $$. I was thinking in the sub $100 range.

The stock sights especially on the .22 mod 60 are just too flimsy and my eyes cant seem to keep them straight. They are older rifles with the non removable front sight otherwise I would buy a better iron sight system.

you will probabnly need soem 3/8" rimfire rings. I would proabably get these http://www.midwayusa.com/product/13...eman-ring-mounts-rimfire-3-8-grooved-receiver in the non-see though flavor. I might also get the bsquare rings if you liked a more traditional ring instead of the vertical ones.

as far as scopes, how much power do you need? I might look at (in order of increasing price)

there are $10 off $100 and 20 off 200 coupons for midway. http://www.midwayusa.com/promo/discount-code

Also, I have seen the leupold rimfire sell for around $170 used many times on ebay.

I had a Redfield (Leupold made Revolution) on a .22 mag Marlin bolt.
Used Burris steel .22 rings.

The bolt handle would ding the scope (removal or cycling- can't remember).

Mine was older and did not have the flat at the curve of the bolt handle for clearance. So I made the flat. Still bonked when removing bolt for cleaning (I remember that).

Solution was to bevel low side of bolt groove in receiver, right at the back.
Then I put a bevel on the lower front corner of the bolt handle "lug".
Just a small 45 degree deal at each spot.

This allowed me to rotate the bolt down a bit as it exited the receiver.
Worked.

This again with a Redfield Revolution scope. Bigger eyebell stuff would maybe still smack.

I have a Model 60 and it wears a Vortex Crossfire 2-7 Rimfire scope which I've been pleased with and I don't drink the Vortex Kool-Aid. My .22 WMR is a CZ 512 and it has a CLearidge Ultra rimfire scope. It is an outstanding scope.

There are differing philosophies on how much to spend on a scope. Neither are wrong. With my eyes I spend as much as I can afford on a scope, it doesn't matter how expensive or inexpensive the rifle.

When I bought one of my model 60's back around 95 it came with a small tasco rimfire scope. Last year I decided I wanted to change it. I didn't do anything fancy. I just got one of the Bushnell 4x32 scopes in the clamshell pack from Wal-Mart. I think it was $35 or $40 IIRC. I like it.

A scope for the .22 Mag will be the same as one for a LR.
Cabela's lists Redfield .22 scope rings at $9.99 for 3/8" dovetail-style mounts. $99.99 for their "Caliber-Specific Rimfire Riflescopes" (dunno what that is since you can sight 'em in. They're cheap.).
