Do I have to remove the sear block on my pre ban Colt Sporter Lightweight for it to accept uppers from other manufacturers?

i'm exploring the possibility of adding a monolithic upper with an 18" barrel 1:7 to duplicate a S.F.'s D.M.R.
Any info much appreciated. Thanks!

No, the sear block only prevents installation of a burst or full auto sear. If you have the larger diameter take down & pivot pins you'll need the adapter pins to fit the standard hole upper.

No. The sear block just prevents installing an auto-sear if you want to convert it to select fire (thanks colt )
If it's a large pin model (.170" diamater trigger group pins), which it probably is, you'll need a large pin trigger group if you go with an aftermarket trigger like a Geiselle. I found out the hard way the standard pin ones don't fit as one of the forward facing legs won't clear the sear block.
You can mill out the sear block if you want but it's not necessary unless it's going to be a full auto. Sounds dangerous as it's a steel block in an aluminum receiver.

If I bought a non pre ban Colt like a brand new one today would it require the same mods to accept different uppers and triggers?

I'm considering the purchase of a Ruger 10-22. There are so many options including

barrels, sights, trigger groups, stocks, etc. The purpose of the purchase is as a small

game rifle in the event of a disaster and something to have fun with. My Remington 512

is retired and at the back of my gunsafe waiting for the day it becomes a true collector's

item.

The other rifle I'm considering is a Browning SA-22 Grade 1 (of course) because I've

always had a soft spot for this classic rifle. Lack of detachable magazines and spare

parts (that I know I can replace in the 10-22) makes the SA-22 less favorable. However,

on the SA-22 plus side, is the ability to break it down.

The 10-22 is the practical choice but I don't have experience with all the accessories.

Experienced users are invited to opine on these 2 choices and the mandatory

accessories necessary for the 10-22 to fulfill it's purpose. (I am already leaning towards

the Hogue over-molded stock if I choose the 10-22.) Any advice would be appreciated.
