Hi Folks,

http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=128488

Anybody interested in a group gun safe buy from Home Depot? They have Sentry gun safes for $329 -- Home Depot SKU # 775-138 (not viewable on their website), Sentry product model # 3920.

Home Depot does not actually carry them at their stores in Washington state but they will special order 4 at a time. They will not special order only 1 safe (they will only special order a minimum of 4), thus my idea of a group buy. I already have a contact person at an eastside Home Depot who researched this issue for me.

I have never taken a close look at one of these safes but they seem decent for the price.

Here's more info on this safe...

There are currently 2 of us who are doing this so we just need 2 more.

I spoke with my contact at Home Depot today and here's what I found out about the group purchase idea...

They would need payment in advance (they can take C.C. payment over the phone -- I confirmed that it wouldn't cost more than $329 (the price I was originally quoted) and if the order is placed they will see about matching the $299 price that a fellow GT member paid for this safe at a Home Depot in Texas. I ain't holding my breath on that one though.

She said that Sentry told her the safes would have to ship w/ a regular re-stock order, which could prolong the endeavor slightly BUT she said there are ways around this and she seemed willing to try and fudge this point.

Delivery time would probably be 2-3 weeks, although it may be a bit faster than that (depends on if she can fudge the re-stock rule).

There will be no shipping charges on these items regardless of whether they are ordered as a re-stock shipment or as a special order (although technically they cannot order it as a 'special order').

Unfortunately they won’t be able to transfer any of the safes from their store to other local stores. The safes would just be waiting at their store at 'will call.'

She said her or her co-worker could be the contact person, no problem, and could coordinate payment and such from their end.

What do you folks think? Anybody interested? If so, send me an email.

p.s. THR seems like a great board, I'm glad it's here.

Well I managed to round up 4 interested people, so it looks like it's going to work out.

This info has been cross posted on a couple of forums so we'll give it a few days to see if anybody else is interested. This will also give me time to iron things out w/ my contact at Home Depot.

Check the GT thread for updates, feel free to email me with any questions.

Thanks
