My local Gander Mountain has received a special order of Sellier & Bellot 2 3/4" #4 Buckshot (27 pellet; Max dram; 1180 fps); 25 round box for $13.99

I am considering this as a HD load (apartment) and I am seeking feedback & opinions from anyone who has used this stuff about patterning, ignition reliability, barrel leading, etc.

I have a Remington 870 12 ga Magnum Express SPS-T; 22" barrel w/ Hi-Viz sights; chokes: Remington Super Full Turkey, Full, Modified, Improved Cylinder;

Which choke should offer the best pattern without 'overchoking' the load?

Thank you

Unless things have changed, S&B pellets are dead soft lead- that means they deform easily. Less choke may well be more with this brand unless you want 'spreader loads.'

Best thing to be said about it is, it's cheap. All I have used has been reliable, but it's dirty and smells like a burning mattress when you shoot it.

As always with any defensive ammo, try it in the gun before you trust it, and run the gun HOT with it to see if it will keep running. About 15 rounds as fast as you can stuff it should tell you if it'll run in the gun when it gets hot.

Stay safe,

Not necessarily,woolfam. I shot a couple hundred rounds today with the last trap round shot as a flurry. No tenderness. loads included 1 1/8 oz Gun Clubs which kick about as much as 9 pellet 00.

I have shot some S&B 12 pellet 00. Dirty but reliable..Open patterns.

"Shoot some and find out is my advice. You tell us what to think of it."

1) I do not belong to any sportsmen clubs or organizations = no patterning range

2) public ranges on game lands in my state...no shothsells allowed = no patterning range

3) this is why I asked the question...thank you very much! :banghead:

hey kmrcstintn,,, i put about 40 of these through my 1100 pretty fast ,,, seems to work and shoot ok,,, i have a factory slug barrel on it ,, so i think that it is choked IC,,, this gun will keep all the pellets inside a 15" circle at 15 yrds. and it is dirty,,,,but this don't mean it will be the same in your gun,,, you should try some as has been suggested... hope this is what you were looking for YMMV

My Mossberg 500A has been loaded with 00B for years. I believe it's the 3" 12 pellet version. I bought 200 shells and have about 20 left, not having a problem in the least out of any of the shotguns I've used them in. I prefer them as the spread from a cylinder choke typically measures around 10" at 20' while Federals (low recoil) tend to spred far less. Since this is a defense tool for me, I'd like the extra coverage for in-house ranges.

I also noticed the extra smoke and perhaps a bit more residue (including unburned powder) in the receiver, but this has never affected the performance of my shotguns in the least. Surefire and cheap; good stuff!
