I've decided against doing a dummy Sten Mk3, instead opting to make a semi-auto out of the kits.

Looks like as soon as I get out of MA into a state where this isn't specifically banned, I can have it? In CT, would it count as an "assault weapon"? There's no pistol grip, no flashhider, etc.

Also, has anyone fired one/have opinions on them?

I always thought the semi parts were too expensive considering the end result... I would however like to build a wall hanger some day... sten's look cool. :)

$250 plus $50 for a 32rd semi-auto 9mm? How is $300 too much, considering $5 mags and cheap ammo?

It would be a short barreled rifle and you would have to find some way to make it fire from a closed bolt. Other than that, no problems.

The semi-auto kits take care of the open bolt, and they have a mock silencer attachment to take care of the 16" problem.

I may take a look at such a project.

Super! I'm going to ask for THIS for my b-day. Mosins and Enfields can still be imported, Sten kits can't.

Edit: Dang, no Sten semi-kits left.... the machinist who made them died and they ran out. I know of only one other place that makes them, so we'll see!

http://stenguns.tripod.com/bsa3.html is the only place that may offer them in the future. I may just build my own and submit it to the ATF for approval.

Good point. I thought the semi-auto parts + kit was more then this...

Course, those are the same reason I did the AK

I called the gentleman at the link I provided - the kits aren't offered yet, but soon enough (I hope!)

For some reason i'm drawn to the Sten, I would love a semi-auto but I fear I might screw up somehow and get in major trouble with the BATFE.

I would much rather buy a full gun but they are no where to be found in semi-auto :(

if ya going to buy a kit get it soon they are have banned the sell of the kits with barrels and the kits i have seen are almost totally destoried also you got to have 10 US parts in it to make it legal

The SGN article was pretty good, but from what I recall it did require a decent amount of work in order to get a working firearm together.

Wes, every proposed design for a SA Sten will take some machining. I guess I see it as a non-issue, but that's more than likely because I already have the machines to work with! :)
