i am reloading 22-250 cartridges. when i insert a new reloaded shell into the guns chamber the bolt is really tight when i close it. i have checked case lenght, bullet seating lenght and cant find the problem. can someone help??
i bought the cartridges new, loaded them 4-5 yrs ago, shot them. i have 3 left over from 4-5 yrs ago and they fit fine. i deprimed them with my full lenght resizing die or d=so i thought.
Turn your sizing die down an 1/8 of a turn at a time until the sized case fits the rifle chamber properly. When you size a case, the expander ball will actually lengthen the shoulder when it pulls out, so you offset that by turning the die in to set the shoulder back to compensate.
Just don't over do it, only until it fits the chamber.
sounds like a chambering problem....which would lead me to check case length and oal....and check case neck. Have you loaded the projectiles before? are they crimped right, seated to right depth, and although i hate to ask, are they definitely correct size projectiles?...just measure one and check....i once bought a box of .223 porjectiles (sierras i think) only to find what was in the box was not what i had bought...some kind of factory mixup.
but it kinda sounds like the cartridge case or the oal is a fraction long....or case shoulder/neck isnt quite correct.
thanks guys! i'll try and screw the die a little farther. as for me being impatient im sorry, i used to reload with a neighbor 5 yrs ago and he moved away with all of his equipment. 2 mths ago i decided to purchase my own equipment because i missed reloading only to find out there are no primers available. finally i ran across some at midway friday and got them today. im ready to do some RELOADING!!
It's cool, we all understand. It's just that yelling "HELP!!" isn't going to speed things along. THR is a great community, but bumping your thread 20 minutes after the last post might make people not want to help you.
Welcome to THR!
Good score at Midway btw, looks like you were there at the right time from what I understand. I know some guys here have been waiting on backorders for some time.
hey guys yall were right! i tightened the die down a little at a time while checking the fit in the rifle and guess what, it fits like a glove now! thanks for all the help and answers it was greatly appreciated. next time i'll be a little more patience for the responses. lol.... as for the midway purchase i got lucky but i wasnt greedy, i only ordered 2 boxes of large rifle primers.
Get one of the mfr's set up & lube the necks on the inside. I have a couple brands, but the one I tend to use is the Midway kit. It uses mica and brushes and works wonders for eliminating or at least minimizing neck stretching. Do a little research on it and try it out. You will be pleased at the results.
