Service Rifle Sling

I am in the process of outfitting an AR as a service rifle. Does anyone have a recommendation for a sling?

Get a Turner or Les Tam.

I've used the 1903/turner style, and really prefer the G.I. nylon web slings as they're sooo much easier to adjust and self-tighten on your arm. They're also lighter and cheaper.

I put a 56" Turner on mine. I use my AR's as competition rifles in NRA Highpower. Whatever sling you use on a Garand/M1a, you will need one 2" longer for a AR.

Howard is correct about the Les Tam. It is a first rate sling. Chrome austex is right about the ease of use of a web sling; however, DO NOT get a nylon one. The nylon can slip under pressure. If you are going to use a web sling, get a cotton one. I use these for all of my new juniors and adults.

Every one of the shooters in the club here (including one guy on the Navy shooting team) recommended the Turner to me when I started, so that is what I went with. The main reason that most of them mentioned was the lack of stretching once it has been pre-stretched.

I have no experience with any others, but I don't regret spending the $50-ish for it.

I am curious as to the opinions of Ron Brown's slings.
My buddy just bought a Ron Brown sling. He started before Les and the 2 have compared notes at least. In fact Les got Ron's sling listed in Creedmores site. This makes Les seem truly first class and says something about both of their work.

The Brown sling that I saw was really nice. I started with a Tam and have found no reason to change. I do have a Turner on an M1 (it was free). It is a good sling, but not in the same category as a Tam. I kind of look at it as the difference between a RRA upper and a White Oak Precision.
