Hi folks, as the title states my m&p shield 40 trigger wont reset.
The gun has never malfunctioned through hundreds of rounds and today i wad going to detail strip it and give it a good cleaning.
However i got distracted by my honey do list.
All I did was remove the take down lever and the pin under it.
I put them back in and gave it a quick cleaning.
Upon reassembly and function check I noticed it would no longer reset.
Any advice on how to fix this?
I dont see how removing the take down lever and one pin would mess up the trigger reset.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, if you removed the headed trigger pin (pin under the takedown lever), you could easily have failed to correctly reposition and reassemble the slide stop assembly, trigger bar and the trigger return spring on the trigger pin. (If you removed the sear housing block, you could've failed to correctly position the tail of the trigger bar, too.)

Unsurprising you might've created a problem with normal functioning.

Probably best to try and find a local shop which might have a M&P pistol armorer on-staff, and let him/her inspect the pistol and make any corrections necessary.

I've been through the M&P pistol armorer class a few times, and it's easy to see first time or less experienced armorers experience trouble when reassembling the slide stop assembly, trigger bar and trigger return spring. It helps to use the provided assembly pin (old Sigma and SW99 slave pin), but inattention can still result in not properly centering the front coil of the trigger return spring on the trigger pin.

It can also create some potential issues if the trigger return spring is installed in reverse orientation (meaning the "open" coil isn't positioned at the rear, on the trigger bar, with the open part of the coil facing upward).

Even as an armorer, I don't "detail strip" a frame for normal cleaning.

Unless you're using an excessive amount of lube, which lets it run and migrate all over, attracting dirt and fouling, the M&P's don't get much more dirty than Glocks (or 99's) inside the frames. (Unless you're shooting in conditions that would lend itself to environmental contamination issues.)

I usually only have to wipe off some dusting of carbon fouling from the front (inside and outside) of my M&P frames (and I tend to shoot them a bit ;) ).

I save the "detailed" disassembly for when it's needed for periodic armorer level inspections.

Thank you for your detailed response.
Im no armoror but i like to be able to dissassemble all of my firearms down to the springs.
I also like to do a detail strip my guns twice a year. its just something i like to do. Its relaxing and kills a lot of time for me.
I have detailed strip my 9mm shield and did not have this problem. Hopefully after this cook out i will have time to take it back down.
Im just suprised that taking out the lever and trigger pin messed up the reset.
I hate when i goof like this. The 4 shields i have are quickly becoming my favorite pistols.

Is that goofy yellow takedown lever in the correct position?

To check/reset the lever: Take a magazine and insert it into the weapon, remove the magazine, then clear the weapon of all ammo. Now that the weapon is cleared, check for proper trigger function.

If all else fails, S&W will repair it under warranty.
