I now have a pair of Pietta 1858's with the adjustable sight and R&D Cylinders in .45LC.

I have had great success with MBC 200gr RNFP over Trailboss powder in the Long Colt cases at 775fps. I get 25 yard groups under 4" offhand. :what:

The only problem, and I've lived with it for 2000 rounds in the first revolver and 200 in the second, is that with the sights lowered all the way to the stop I am still holding 12" low (POA) to get a impact in the bullseye. The second revolver does the exact same thing, but POA is 8" low with the sights adjusted all the way down.

So, who makes taller front sights for Pietta 1858's? What other fixes are there?

Thank you,

Question... with the target sights... is there adequate meat there to file a deeper notch in the rear sight blade to gain yourself a little more to work with?

If you contact Pietta's importer ("Traditions"), they might be able to help with whether another front sight is available.

Dang, that's excellent and excellent shooting. I can do that with some of my guns, unless I had too much coffee that morning. :D Don't have a 58, but have been thinkin' about getting one, BP, though, not converted.

Shot a 3" group off hand at 15 yards today with my new Pietta Navy Sheriff's brasser and thought THAT was good. LOL

The only idea that I can come with right off the bat would be to find a piece of material and simply cut a slit (or slot) into the bottom of it to match the width of the front sight blade. Then temporarily slip it right over the front sight as an extension to raise it. It could be made of wood or plastic or whatever material that won't mar up the finish of the existing sight. Then shape the top of it appropriately or make it flat and glue a piece of a small fiber optic light pipe to the top of it.
If the shape, height and function is acceptable then the entire piece can be temporarily glued in place with some rubber cement or such.
It might not look too great but if it was temporarily functional then that's all that I would care about. And it doesn't need to match the length of the front sight blade but only needs to have a tiny nib on top to provide just a little bit of a front sight boost.
I wonder if some version similar to the steel front sight of the non-adjustable Pietta 1858 model could be slotted out to work or not?
I suppose that some type of 2 part structural putty or epoxy like JB Weld could be attached directly to the sight, but shaping it off the gun might be easier and less damaging to the sight.
Welcome to my wacky world of temporary patches and fixes!

Still no luck on finding a taller front sight. I shot it today with the blade removed from the rear sight and gained about 2" of elevation at 25 yards. If I can't find taller sights I'll start working on making them. Traditions was no help what-so-ever. Bunch of nitwits there.
