Anybody got one of these ? They sure look like they would be a lot of fun. Would this be classified as a pistol?

While I'm on the subject, can any shotgun manufactured with a pistol grip be classified as a pistol? I'm pretty sure that the "Super Shorty" from Serbu Firearms is classified as a pistol. Just curiosity rearing it's head.

Their website states the following:

"This is an NFA Weapon and requires a Federal Form 3 or 4 Transfer."

So I would say that it's neither a pistol or a shotgun.

The reason Serbu can do that is that they make everything from scratch, so it's never officially a shotgun or rifle, just an AOW.

These short coachguns (which I now really want) were once fullsize sbs shotguns, so cutting them down and all means that they're now short barreled and fall under the NFA as class three weapons, IIRC.

I don't think the Serbu Shorties, or other shotgun AOWs, are "made from scratch," exactly.
What the makers do is buy shotgun receivers that have never been stocked. They then use them to make AOWs.
This means they transfer with a $5 tax rather than a $200 one like short-barreled shotguns do.

There was some talk on another board about some Browning A5 actions one of the gun dealers was advertising in Shotgun News. They were old stock, in the white, that had never been completed. The general opinions were that they would be AOW fodder. Several people said they were going to look for old A5s to use as a source of parts.
