SHOT Day 3 - Marlin

Well I promised I would go by Marlin. Nice booth, not a lot new this year. A wall of lever actions.

I down loaded the Marlin 2011 catalog and on page 11 I noticed that for 2011, they have brought back the 336Y lever action in 30-30. This is a youth model that has a 16.25" barrel and a stock with length of pull of 12". This is a very nice compact carbine indeed with an overall length of 33.25" and weight of 6.5 lbs.

Nice catch. Then on page 12, two new 1894's with 16.5 bbls. one in 44 the other 357! Nice!

The 336Y and 16.5" 1894s are some seriously drool worthy add ons to their line up. Those are heavily coveted in their limited or older runs, glad they are back!

Agreed. I finally broked down and sent my 336C out to get the barrel chopped down to 16.5". This makes a very handy hunting rifle.

TexAg, thanks for pointing out the 1894's. I'm sure at some point I will get one of those as well.

sometimes i wish marlin would do a rotating mag like on a savage 99. That would be the perfect rifle
Otherwise, I see nothing but quality. I think an 1894 in 44 or 357 would be pretty awesome

Pretty odd these "new" additions weren't at SHOT! I'm thinking the 1894s might be a little pricey, but the 336Y shouldn't be bad. I'll have my sights on one of those for me and my boys. I just hope they aren't as rare as the SBL or CSS.

I think maybe they did this to show say we are gonna build quality, solid guns that are gonna go bang every time in 2011.

Honestly they may have been. I'm not familiar enough with the existing line of products to know. At SHOT I depended on most vendors to have a wall with a big sign "NEW STUFF" and if there wasn't one, a lot of the time I simply didn't know.

I didn't see a "Hey Dummy Look Here" sign at Marlin

I recently looked at an 1894DL in .44 Mag and the price was $899.

The walnut wasn't particularly DeLuxe and the stock didn't reach the receiver, there was a huge gap, maybe 1/8". I didn't even turn it over to see if the other side was properly fitted, I just handed it back.

Sad, sad, sad.

Sorry there's no new Mountie, they're great rifles.

Funny you should say that--I was just looking at the 16.25" stainless 1894 in .357 and wondering if I could get a stainless normal lever to replace it.

I know there is not a big market for this but it would be nice to see marlin make a left handed lever. It seems the other big manufactures 'throw a bone' to the southpaws...remington, browning, savage, ruger, tikka, bennelli...but alas no levers.
