Well, I did it.

After accumalating all the equipment Tim (weshoot2) recommended, and cleaning all my factory loaded cartridges, and doing all the other steps RCBS, ABC Handbook, and y'all recommended, I took 150 cartridges over to the NRA Range last night (slow due to snow) and had some fun.

Observations:

1> Nervous on the first shot (.45 LC); will it explode?!

2> Big grin after the first grouping!

3> Surprised at the difference primer makes (Fed vs. WLP)

4> TiteGroup is a whole lot dirtier than factory

5> It's fun to shoot 150 rounds without thinking "Shoot, I just spent 66 bucks!".

6> Next time I think I'll bring 200 rounds!

Congrats

Very rewarding rolling your own. Had a big smile all nite. Its a fun hobby also and you are hooked. Boon:D

Congratulations!

I still remember my first batch of fifty .357 magnum rounds from the late 1970s—or actually, I believe it was forty-eight rounds, since I crunched one or two in the process.

Way to go. Loading some ammo for the first time and not having any bad luck makes a person feel good. You will see a large cost savings over a period of time. Load safe and have a blast.

Ain't it a hoot?!!!
If you're like every one 0f us who was new once, you'll try everyt poweder under the sun sooner or later.:)
I load a lot of 5 LC,and chrono it once in a while.
FYI I found American Select to be less Positon-sensative than Tigegroup, even though T.group is touted as being the best in that respect.
That said,I hated Geen Dot ,others love it.
YOu'll never find the perfect one,but it's fun trying!!!
Load safe,and shoot safe.
Mike cas shooter.

Congratulations

Hope you have fun loading. If your like me you won't save any money but you will get to shoot alot more.

Good Luck

Welcome to the club. You have probably already gathered that it is an addicting hobby. There really is a good feeling about shooting your own reloads. Be safe and continue to have fun.

Lol. Same here. I don't think there's anyone who didn't wish their arm was about 3ft longer on shooting that first handloaded cartridge.

Chris

My first reloads were .38 specials to shoot in my new Ruger 3 screw .357 convertable. That was in 1965. Still have the gun.

I used a Lee hand loader, and a 140 grain speer over god knows how much 2400. Those old scoops were not all that accurate.

They did not explode, and shot fine. I have been handloading ever since.

First reloads

If you would't mind, I was wondering what difference you found between the Federal and Winchester primers? thanks!

While at the range, I shot three 50 round boxes; on each box, I wrote my comments.

On the last box, I was pretty emphatic in stating that I did NOT like; seemed to be louder w/ more 'oomph".

I compared the load info with the other boxes, and was within 2/10 of a grain; I box was higher, the other lower.

The primary discernable difference was the Federal primer in the box I didn't like.

Since I have 950 more Federal primers to load, I will know more in a month or so. <grin>

as for the primer difference , I have noticed less problems with them myself ( more sensitive and seem to light the load better with magnum powders ) as for the reloading congratulations , as I still have half of the first 44 rounds that I rolled at home , I shoot one every now and then , the onlytime I was concerned firing a reload was with my Lebel rifle , I even went as far as making a sandbag rest and using a string to fire it from a distance , , but those even shot fine . have fun and load safe .
