I finally got a day to myself and headed to the range with my AK47 and my vz-24 mauser. I hadn't fired either one since I got them.
I put my target out at 25yds. just to get them on paper. Man I was surprised that both of them
A: Didn't blow up in my face
B: Hit exactly where I aimed them.
The Vz24 was a trade with another High roader (thanks asknight) and the AK was purchased from a dealer here in Arkansas about a month ago, kinda like a Christmas present to myself (my wife hates my collecting milsurps and ammunition):D. The mauser is 8mm and the numbers on the bolt doesn't match the receiver. The headspace was right and the barrel, while a little frosty, cleaned up good and the riflings are sharp and strong. The AK is a WASR 10. Alot of folks seem to have a problem with them, but after shooting mine today, I will not complain. I was getting 2" groups at 100yds. That's damn good for me and my eyesight. Just had to move the front sight to the right alittle and "Bam" I was in. The ammo for the AK was the ever present wolf brand, while the 8mm for the VZ24 was Yugo sniper (1983). I purchased a few boxes from Ammunition to go.
Thanks for reading my ramblings. I am just excited that both of them shot so well. Stay well and shoot often.:)

I can't even get 2 inch groups at 100 yards with my M1A unless I use a sandbag rest. Thats pretty damn good for an AK

yes... would like to see picks of the rifle and targets. thats really good....from an AK....even a WASR.

cool, congrats.

as iv said before. if you don't think you can hit a target at 100 yards with a cheap gun. its not the gun. its you.

My MAK 90 gave me a astounding 2.5 inch group using Ulyanovsk brand ammo. On sandbag of course at 100 yds.
The Romanian SAR 1 grped 3-4 inches at 100 yds. Ulyanovsk ammo.
The Polytech Type 56 was 2 inch grp at 100 yds. Uly ammo.

Cool !! I was also out shooting a new AK for the first time today.Always a blast, but i had a small trigger related issue, and rather than attempting a hi-jack of your fine thread, will now go start another.:D

How many rounds were fired in those groups?

How consistently do these guns perform at that level?

My vepr will consistently put 20 rounds in a 3" circle at 100 yards. I would bet with a better trigger it would do 2.5". This is using a PKAS black dot , I cannot see well enough with irons to do it.

My .223 Saiga gives 2" groups with Wolf when I do my part.

AKs are not as inaccurate as people say they are.

im not surprised. using wolf 122 grain steel case my wasr isn't too bad on the 100 yard line either!

I don't think current wasr 10s and wolf ammo are as bad as people think. they're not target rifles or match ammo, but they aren't horrible either.

You think that you're surprised. Imagine the look on my face:eek:. I was shooting 10 round groups with the rifle setting on shot bags. The first 2 shots were to the left about 2 inches, but the elevation was right on. I took my brass hammer and punch and moved the sight over. Shots 3,4,5 were touching on the 6 ring of a 3" shoot n see. The 6th round was dead center of the target. 7,8,9, and 10 were between them. WOW!!! I cut that section from the target and it is setting proudly taped inside the lid of my tool box at work. I have been shooting for around 33 years, and have never been so surprised. Not bragging, just......... Aw, what the heck. Yes I am!:D
