I have been looking for an affordable but quality polymer framed pistol to use for home defense and occasional concealed carry for a little while. I had narrowed it down to another Glock (boring), maybe an XD (too "blocky" feeling and I hate grip safeties) and the CZ's, FN's, Walthers and S&W's. I have to admit, I was mostly focused on striker-fired designs because it's what I am used to, having shot Glocks for a number of years now.
Well, I heard a little about the SIGPro/Sp2022 and decided to give it a whirl. It points like the finger of God, balances really well and has a pretty good trigger to be a TDA. I kind of like the de-cocker. I have heard the naysayers talk about the "high bore axis" and long trigger pull, etc., but I figured for 400 bucks, what the heck, I'd try it out and move it if I wasn't happy.
Well, 100 or so rounds in one ragged hole about the size of my fist (7yds) later and I am having visions of 226's and 220's dancing in my head. Wow! I wish I had tried a SIG a lot sooner! Now I know what the fan boys are always going on about. These really are nice guns.
I am a big fan of a nice, consistent trigger pull (grew up shooting 1911's and revolvers) so I really was hesitant with the SIG's double/single, but even with a little mushy take-up and creep, this thing made me look good!
I'm sold and am already thinking about when I can add another to my lineup.
I also got to shoot my also new Kahr CM9. Out of 100+ rounds, I only had one failure to feed and that was probably my fault due to limp-wristing. While not nearly as easy to shoot accurately, the Kahr held it's own and has won a spot in my front pocket as my EDC CC.
I have to say though, that SIG did such a good job of soaking up the 40's "snappy" recoil (and I hate to use that term because I really do like shooting 40's, but I know some people get butt-hurt by the tiny bit of added recoil over a 9mm) that it was actually more fun to shoot than the little Kahr.
So anyway, if anyone is on the fence about either of these guns, or any Kahr or SIG for that matter, I'd say give them a whirl. You could do a whole lot worse for $400.
