I listened to Gun Talk and then did some looking around the Intenet.

These sites have SHOT Show reports. First site has only text, as all the photos are screwed up.

What I've found interesting thus far:

The .17 Mach II---basically a .22 LR necked down to .17

Taurus--"Gaucho" model single action Colt Army clone, along with the Thunderbolt, the Taurus version of the Colt Lightning pump rifle in .45 Long Colt.

Also, the Taurus Raging Bull now in .500 Smith and Wesson Magnum.

Cobb--new .50 BMG rifle.

Marlin--a new 45/70 single shot buffalo rifle.

Anyone else see or find or know of anything really interesting to you from the SHOT Show 2004?

Anyone go there and see something really cool in person?

Then there's this, WOW!

Cimarrons "Big 50" .50-90 rifle. What did you think I was talking about?

In order of neatness:

1. AIA is making newly manufactured .308 caliber number4mk1 enfields that take unmodified m-14 magazines. (i'm trying to arrange a group buy of these, see my thread in the rifle forum)

2. the guncrafter .50 GI 1911 is the heat. if you didn't look at the magazine or the barrel, you'd not be able to tell it wasn't a normal .45 caliber 1911.

3. the rohrbaghorhoweveryouspellit is everything it has been made out to be, size and handling wise.

4. S&W is making a kyoot little scandium/titanium 7 round .22 mag j-frame.

I also was able to handle the XM8, which throughly underwhelmed me. none of the sights worked on any of the guns there, meaning there was no reticle at all. none. and no back up sights, either.

I could build an AR that weighs the same or lighter and does everything it does using parts available at the shot show and the tools on my keychain.

Not a Bubba job, I take it. Count me interested.

There were rumors around rugerforum.com that Ruger would introduce new autopistols at SHOT show this year. Didn't see anything about it in the write up.

Andrew turned me on to those..at first I was suspcious, but went and looked at them...has superb potential and hopefully I have their literature...

Good thing the gun industry isn't going the same direction as every other manufacturer is and using sex to sell thier products. If all these products are so good then they should be able to sell themselves.

THE "better mousetrap" of the whole show…

…was Chip McCormick's honest-to-Peter-G.-Kokalis "drop-in" AR15 match-grade trigger.

Refreshingly, the above pilfered pics withstanding to the contrary, there was a decided decrease in the amount of silicone, push-ups and flesh in Las Vegas this year. Even the EAA gals were fairly well-dressed… a first.

I spent 80% of the show in the 900 aisle in the LE room, so I missed most of the show in terms of seeing everything. Kasey Beltz of Accu-Shot invited me to sell and promote my book out of his booth.

This is me:

A big highlight was the THR dinner at the Chinese restaurant Friday night. I think we had at least 30 HighRoaders around one huge table!

Taurus had 13 new guns. Not variations, but new guns.

New single action revolver for the SASS folks.

The one that got my attention was the Itty Bitty revolver, which is 25% smaller than their previous snubbie. 5-shot 9mm as well as 8-shot .17 HMR.

Can't remember the name, but Walter had a bullpup .22 LR that was neat looking.

Smith & Wesson showed the 3-inch barrel .500 Magnum revolver. It seems to be a 4-inch, but that last inch is muzzle brake. Also, a Scandium frame 1911 Commander size.

Hey! Good to see you Matt .... you're better lookin than I thought (J/K!!!!).:p :)

Hope you got some good sales and promo for the book ... and oh boy ... do I envy you guys at the dinner ... 30 .... THR folks all together. Would love to have been there.

Didn't anyone take some pics then??? I know Oleg couldn't make it but ....... someone had a camera ... surely??

I wish I could have gone, but I guess I'm lucky that I didn't. As sure as I'm sittin' here now, I would have spent gobs of money at the Cimarron table. I'd put myself in the poor house just to spend a few more minutes with that lady and those guns.

Someone said that Cimarron does the best 'antiquing' in the industry. Anyone have 1st hand experience with their work?
