Had a shoot today with the local Sheriff's department, and after lunch they brought out a Thompson and an HK MP5 for some "fun"!

That might not be a big thing for most of you that live in the "Free" United States, but being a captive of California it was a blast to be able to touch and shoot a full auto. I'm sure we broke some CA. law for even looking at them, but what the heck...

I still have a smile on my face that will probably last all weekend. Yeehaaa!!!

In an article in Small Arms Review several years ago that smile was called, "The 30 round grin."

FA shooting is a lot of fun. It's been too long since I did some.

I shot some select fire guns myself. Personally I don't see what the big deal is, unless we're talking about the minigun:D I have shot a Colt Commando, a Ruger, as wel as an Uzi.

Well I still have that smile today :D

The MP5 is pretty common among SWAT, but I asked where they got the Thomson. I was told it was confiscated as evidence and became the property of the department..

I was a gunner in the Navy. I always remember how stoked I would be after a big shoot. We shot M14s (way funner than M16, IMO), M60s, .50 cals, and even a 30mm. I loved every minute of it, and still keep trying to keep my eyes open for my opportunity to get my hands on something in full auto again.

nice to know it wasn't just destroyed

First full auto I shot was an Uzi. Got off the range back into the store and everyone was laughing at the expression on my face. They had been watching on the security camera and said I looked like I had just had a...well you know  heehee We have two MP5 to rent at the range and I have a ball. Can't keep the grin off my face for hours. :D :D :D :D

While I do enjoy a good full auto shoot now and again, I gotta admit that the biggest rush I've ever gotten out of shooting was with a single shot breachloader... firing the 120mm main gun on the M1A1 is about the most fun I think I'll ever get out of shooting, and I think I miss it :(
