Hello all, I'm the proud new owner of a Remington 870 and have been out shooting it twice every weekend for the past 2 months. I absolutely love the gun but have had some problems with some Winchester 7.5 ammo I bought in a case from Wal-Mart. I was told that Winchester bulk ammos is not very good but I am shooting so much I was hoping someone here knew where the best place to buy ammo is, either Online or at a Sporting Goods Store and preferably bulk. I'm located in Orange County California. I want to purchase bulk since it is cheaper and I'm either shooting Skeet, Indoors at paper targets or in the desert on private property and firing a lot of rounds. I would really prefer to shoot slugs or buckshot most of the time, anyone know of any good deals.

Much appreciated.

AmmoToGo has the best price on 12 pellet buckshot so far. Nobel, Italian made stuff.

For shot, as in not slugs, I've bought a couple cases of Federal cheap stuff from a local Sportman's Warehouse. They give a 5% discount on full cases. Each box is marked $3.99, ten boxes to a case. 250 rounds for about $40. What I have shot so far seems to run quite well through my 870.

Can't say how good it is at breaking clays, though, I can't seem to hit 'em unless they're standing still.

How does that stuff pattern? It looks to be the exact same design as Rio and Wolf, neither of which pattern well for me.

I've never shot Sellier & Bellot ammo but I see it quite often online for sale, anyone have any input on that brand? Also is it true if you order ammo online you have to be home to sign for the delivery or is there a way to get around that? I'm working during normal delivery times.

Thanks!

Depends on the shop, the carrier, and the driver. I've had plenty of ammo just left on my front step before. Even if they don't leave it, they will leave a delivery notice and you can usually just drive over to the depot and pick it up or sign a release and they'll leave it. Not a big deal, typically.

S&B is cheap but fires dirty, because the shot is not in a cup but simply wadded, it patterns terribly. Good for blasting cans but not that good for home defense when you want to know where every 00 buck goes.

Try Federal 00 ammo from www.ammoman.com, I prefer the reduced recoil 00 because I have patterned it for headshots @ 15-17 yards.

Buy by the case and delivery is free, since it is a ORMD shipment, I've always had to have someone sign for it when the UPS guy shows.

I burned through most of a case of S&B target load in my 870, and yes, it was dirty, but it WAS an 870. A LOT of clay birds, I don't recal any malfunctions of any kind. Two strokes with the cleaning brush instead of one. My buddy used some of it through his old ithaca, and had failures to extract. I apologized and told him it is pretty much the cheapest ammo on the planet, but it turned out to be a bad extractor.
