I've been learning a lot from reading various threads, particularly many of the 101 Library items.

There is a huge amount I don't know, but my current question is about buffering. What is the purpose of the buffering component of the load?

thanks in advance!

Keeps the buckshot pellets from deforming upon firing. When they deform, they fly in all directions after they leave the barrel which opens up the pattern.

If your not loading buckshot you don't need it, I only use 9's thru 7 1/2 for skeet, trap etc never used it.

It is widely used in heavy hunting loads for the same reason it is used with buckshot.

Prevents pellet deformation and tightens patterns.
