Ok . .so late next week I'll be setup to load my own slugs. (12 Gauge - 2 3/4 inch keyed to the wad - 525 Grain )

Can you make some recommendations as to what powder and primers would be a good starting point? I'm guessing I'll need a new shotgun specific powder. What I have on hand currently is:

Varget
H335
AA#5
H335
H110
Trailboss

Any advice or info as to where to find loading data is greatly appreciated.

Have a good one,
Dave

Get the Lyman Shotshell Reloading Manual. They have a complete section on loading slugs and their data worked just great for my gun. It's amazing the accuracy you can get with those things, when everything goes together correctly.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Fred! I'll have to take a look at Gander next weekend to see if they have it in their reloading section. I just swapped my safety on the 870 from RH to LH so I'm really getting pumped for deer season.

Have a good one,

Dave,

You're welcome. The Lyman Manuals are packed full of good information, but their loads for pistol rounds are usually on the conservative side. The Shotgun Manual is a really good one, though. I found the load I was looking for in 12 gauge for SASS in it, along with the ideal load for my slug gun. I use the Lyman wasp waist slug, which I cast from pure lead. It uses AA hulls and AA wads, and really makes that old blunder buss shoot. I've only shot one deer with it and it went right down. It was a measured 87 yards, and the slug went exactly where I aimed it. I'd love to pop one of the black bears that are always prowling around our neighborhood with one, but the neighbors would probably complain.......
