Shotshell reloading - What would you tell a Beginner?

DON'T !!

Don't start reloading shotshell unless you have a definite need for weird loads (7/8oz in 12ga), volume ammo (500+ per week), or belong to a gun club that sells re-cycled shot. And that last point is important. It's the cost of shot that makes reloading shotshell expensive. One serious cost analysis of lead shot will show you.
Valid point. I started fooling around with black powder shot shells for an old double. Its cheaper to buy the cheapest box of shells at Walmart, cut the crimp off reclaim the shot, hull and primer , discard the powder and plastic wad and proceed from there.

No more than what your going to do, I wouldn't waste my time doing it. Winchester offers a rebate twice a year on their AA shells...purchase a couple flats, turn in the rebate, save the hulls and resell them as once fired for .05-.10 each to save a little more money. I shoot skeet year round in all 4 gauges so I have to do it to make it as cheap as I can...if I hit the lottery I'm done reloading ANYTHING.
