Should I bring a gun with me rowing?

.cheese, I'm in the Coast Guard and I'm calling BS on that one!

I'll call tomorrow and check.

Maybe the sign was just a sales tactic. Or, maybe it was something other than Coast Guard and I just am not remembering correctly what agency it was referring to.

If I'm by the store one of these days I'll go in and take another look.

I meant to call the DMV today, but I've been feeling like I'm going to barf from the meds the surgeon has me on (percoset and augmentin). I did my errands and just went to sleep afterwards today.

I'm a cop in that corner of the Universe and I say carry, carry, carry. A small Glock would work well: If you get it wet -even really wet-, no big deal. Just keep it in a good secure holster.

I say you need to take a 700 Nitro Express with you. If you see a gator in front of you, one shot will make a big hole in the gator and back your boat up in case it is not dead. You also already have the percocet for the shoulder pain. As long as you don't fire it perpendicular to the boat you should be fine. :)

.cheese,

I hope I didn't sound like I was calling BS on you. Somebody at the store is either trying to pull the wool over your eyes or they are misinformed. I've issued a notice of violation in the past for people not having flares and the local big box stores tried to sell them road flares instead of marine flares. Good lluck with the kayaking!

I think its obvious that you need an M-60 mounted on the front like the SEALS have, you know just in case. Absent that I say a stainless .357 snubbie or a kel-tec sounds like a great idea.

My initial thoughts lean towards either a Ruger SP101 in 357 or a compact Glock in 10mm. Depends on your preferences. Losing a Glock wouldn't break my heart, but I'm not too proud to use one.

Definitely look into lanyards... in my limited water sporting experience, tools seem to go SPLASH right when you really need them. That's inconvenient with a wrench, but REALLY bad when you need a gun :what:

This might be the only time I would say bring a Glock!

But really an M&P would work also, my personal preference in that situation.

I take a gun with me whenever legal. I don't want written on my tombstone, "Gee I wish I remembered to bring my gun". It serves no purpose sitting at home. You just never know where you may end up or what the situation you end up in is going to be like. I know of people that have hiked in beautiful, pristine parks only to stumble upon drug growers. They didn't expect that either. My advice is carry the gun always.
