Shoulder Holster Experience/Models

I also live in the valley of the sun and I feel your pain. Once in a time long, long ago I had to wear a shoulder holster and jacket in Georgia. there it wasn't the heat so much as the humidity. Dry and clean, step outside and " Sap " you're wet. Here, it is not the sweat so much as being slow roasted. Good Luck.

Didn't the L.A. detectives carry crossdraw under their suits? Or was that just Joe Friday?

I picked up a leather 5:11 belt at the uniform store. Not really dressy, but closer than the nylon during belt I wear now. I'll see how the leather belt does this coming week. It sounds like shoulder holsters are rare for a reason.

How about an old west style gun belt and holster? It would work with the right kind of suit.

I think I would find a belt that could fill the role as both a dress belt and a pistol belt, as I have never cared for a shoulder holsters. A Milt Sparks or Tucker Gun Leather belt would both work well.

I have used a Miami Classic for years with a 1911. It has pluses and minuses. It is overall very comfortable, particularly when I am driving a lot. The pistol on one side with two mags on the other balances very well. I have never bothered with tie-downs.

The problems include, that when you draw, you need to watch your left side. I grab my right shoulder with my left hand so that I won't sweep my arm when I draw. I don't know of any ranges that will let you practice with one because of this. You are stuck going out to the desert. (Which isn't necessarily bad.) I also find, I have to take trouble to keep id concealed. A heavy coat works fine in winter, but in warmer months, if I wear an open shirt or suit jacket over it, I have to watch constantly to make sure that the wind doesn't blow it open.

Just get a good one. This Galco is great, but I but a $25 Uncle Mike's or something like it once, and it was terrible. Nothing fit right, and the adjustments wouldn't stay put.

When I got into police work, a tie was standard. A dress coat was required anytime we left the PD. I did a short stint with criminal investigators and was issued a Miami Classic to carry my 5906 in. I worked just fine. I preferred it over belt carry.

I don't understand why the OP can't simply invest in a quality gun belt with a buckle that'll compliment this suit. He doesn't have to wear a "typical dress belt" because there are gun belts that are designed to be worn with dress clothes. If the OP thinks the suit and tie is hot and uncomfortable, then why even consider a wearing a hot and uncomfortable slab of leather around his chest for hours of the day to boot?

A nice gun belt should work fine with a suit. I wear this black elephant rig with a charcoal suit and it looks right nice with my black Allen Edmond wingtips or cap toes.

The El Paso Saddlery Spider shoulder rig works beautifully. I would have no qualms about spending every day in one.
