My buddy tried to shoot my .45acp reloads last night and on his 5th (and last) round, it failed to go into battery. I had to bump his slide with the palm of my hand to bring it to battery.

I have seen this in the past if my 200 grain LSWC were not seated properly. I haven't seen one of these "failures" in quite some time.

My Kimber eats'em up and asks for more. :neener:

More likely a short throat then a tight chamber.

If your OAL is too long with a SWC, the front driving band is hitting the leade in his barrel.

You could take the barrel out of his gun, color your loads with a black magic-marker.
And see what is hitting where.

Otherwise known as doing a plunk test.

+1. My Sig 1911 barrel has very quick start of rifling (almost no leade) and I must use shorter OAL than for most other barrels. Many 1911 barrels with longer leade will accommodate 200 gr SWC OAL around 1.250" - 1.260"+ but for the Sig barrel, OAL longer than 1.245" will hit the start of rifling and prevent the round from fully chambering.

Here's a Lone Wolf barrel showing longer leade/slower start of rifling (see white arrow)

Funny - I've got the exact opposite problem. I've got a bunch of .45ACP 230gr RN that I've loaded, which feed just fine in my SIG Revolution, but give my Kimber Pro Carry fits. They were loaded at 1.250" (give or take), and the Kimber just doesn't like 'em.

I've since worked up a load at 1.230", which keeps all the pistols happy. I now keep the rest of the 1.25's for the less-finicky guns (SIG 1911, SIG P220, and XDm - they all like 'em).

ETA: It's not a chambering problem, as the rounds 'plunk' just fine - but more of a feeding problem - the slide will stop with the round wedged on the feed ramp at a bit of an angle... gotta smack it to have it drop into battery.

Tom488, what I posted was regarding the same 5" barrel length 1911 models.

As you posted, feeding issues with shorter barrel compacts and different type pistols, that's another story.

Nice pictures bds!

I just examined the box of rounds that he was shooting from and it looks like they could have been seated a sliver deeper. I myself (in my Kimber) used 2 lots I loaded Sunday to test newer components, so I should try those rounds the Sig didn't like next time out.

Great replies!
