I have the opportunity to buy either a used Sig 229 for $300 or a new Glock 23 for $440.
The Sig comes with interchangable .40 and .357 barrels and nite sites.
I don't know how old it is but the seller says he had less than 1K rounds through it.

Any input would be helpful.

I love my GLOCK, I really do, but for all the bells and whistles, id go for the SIG for the price. And i really love my GLOCK

be wary of a $300 sig.

No one would sell a P229 with less than 1K rounds thru it for $300 when it's used market value is $500.

Just for comparison, here is a pic of a $380 Sig. It's sixteen years old, and was a LE trade-in.

I generally prefer Glocks, but that Sig is real tempting. In fact, that's the one I'd get. It's an exceptional value. Check that Sig out carefully, then buy it. That's all assuming that you don't care which trigger system you end up with. I wouldn't be especially weary of the Sig if it is a private seller. Might very well be somebody to really doesn't what they're going for these days.

I would say pick the Sig, but only if it is in good condition. Like has been stated look over it very carefully first.

$300 for a P229 with .40 and .357 barrels and less than 1K rounds through it sounds too good to be true. That gun could easily sell for $450.

But if everything checks out, go with the Sig, no doubt. It's a finely made gun and you will certainly not regret it. Glocks are nice but there's something special about a Sig. Take it from a former P229 .40 owner.

Assuming that the Sig is in good condition, I would go with the Sig. If you are inclined, you can shoot lead reloads in the Sig which will save you a lot of money. You cannot safely shoot lead reloads in the Glock.

If the Sig looks to be in good shape, copy the serial number and call CS for the manufacturer date. If it's fairly new at that price, I'd buy it, then ship it to Sig for a cleaning, new springs, etc. My used 229 cost $500.00. Plus the added cost of new internals when I elected to ship it to Sig. Can't comment on Glock. I don't own one.

If you are in law enforcement then I would get the one that is closest to what your duty weapon is.

I guess I'll be the odd ball in the group. I have not shot a SIG I would buy (ever since my experience w/ a LEMON P-series :( ). That said, I'd go Glock for this one :)

Sig's got some special deal going - new sights and a factory reconditioning process (springs, cleaning, etc.) for $99. Can't remember where I saw that at.

If you can have a gunsmith give it a quick once over before buying (or get a short return period to have a smith look it over), I'd certainly buy the Sig if everything checks out.

If the 229 is clean (figuratively and literally) you can't pass that up. Too good of deal.

Though if it were just a choice b/t which to carry, I'd take the smaller, lighter one, yet with higher capacity, consistent trigger, and bulletproof finish.

With the Sig, throw in another $200 --- Presto! --- .40, .357, and 9mm.

That price is almost too good. If the gun checks out, go for it.

I have a 229 with about 2k through it. Still looks NIB.
