Seriously though I would contend that in battle, the AK is better than the SIG in the hands of regular soldiers.

I'm going to have to call "no way." on that one, since the sig actually has sights that are of more than limited utility and the safety is somewhere where someone other than larry can reach it without shfting a hand more than 6 inches.

I'm curious to hear WildAlaska back up his statements about the Sig rifle's poor suitability for warfighting.

The PE57, for instance, is of similar design to the very useful and proven G3.

The 550 series seems to contain all the best standards of western .223 rifles - stamped steel, plastic furniture, plastic mags, preset sights, piston gas system. It also uses a basically Kalishnikov bolt system.

Is it the accuracy of the rifles that gives doubt to their reliability? Is the construction of any of the components subpar compared to Augs, FAMAS, G3, M16, FNC, G36, Galil?

My take on the Swiss Arms (SIG) rifles are:
You take the best from a AK, AR, HK G3, and then produce it to the highest quality with tight standards, and voilà, you have a SG 55X.
