Sig P220..Carry or Standard?

I am preparing to order my first Sig. I've settled on the P220 Equinox, but can't decide if I should go with the standard or carry version. The standards barrel lenght is 4.4" and the carries barrel is 3.9". Can someone tell me what the real difference will be to me? Why should I get the longer vs the shorter? Will the half inch longer barrel make that much difference in accuracy? I have a Ruger P345, but want to expand my collection. Thanx for your input.....

If you're carrying alot I like the feel of the carry...it points real good for me and should hide well. Although the 5 inch single action 220 I handled was the proverbial bees knees.

I prefer the Carry over the standard 220 because I feel the Carry's slightly shorter steel slide makes for a better balance (less "top-heavy") when mated to the alloy frame that is common in size and weight to both variants.

I'm also a fan of my 220 Carry. However, I only have my 226 to compare it to. From my own limited research it seems most owners that have had both a 220 and a 220 Carry have preferred the Carry (from my perusals at SIGforum.com).

It really depends on what you intend to use the gun for. If its a range gun then go with the standard P220. If the gun is for carry I would suggest getting the carry model.

i have the same question

after deciding that the P220 will be the next 45 that i own, i took off to the local gun shop. they had the carry and the fullsize.

the only difference is 0.5". i couldn't tell much difference, but thought the fullsize balanced a tad better. will carrying an extra 0.5" really make it that much easier to carry? if not, i'll probably go with the fullsize.

Personally, I find the balance of the P220 Carry better than the fullsize, in the stainless (heavier) slide guns. The shorter bbl will be nice for IWB, as it won't act as a lever arm as much when you sit.

One other benefit of the Carry version is reduced perceived recoil. I know, it seems to defy logic... But the Carry's seem to shoot softer than the fullsize pistols. I thought maybe it was in my head, but a few others (Mas Ayoob, among them) seem to notice the same thing.

Will the shorter barrel affect accuracy? Not unless you're a master shooter. I regularly shoot groups like this with my P220 Carry Equinox ... It's a fantastic pistol. 8 yards:

Well I did decide on the carry version and ordered it today. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow and we can head to range. Can't wait!!!

I have the full sized P220 and it shoots like a dream.

I really don't think that a half inch in length makes a significant difference for concealed carry, especially IWB. It probably doesn't make any difference in accuracy either. It will give a little better velocity (maybe 50 fps?).

Paints: the one place the Carry is nice for IWB is less barrel to lever the gun around when you sit.

ANY P220 is a sweet gun. They pulled me away from my 1911's, and to tell you the truth, I don't miss 'em.
