Last week Top Gun Supply had on sale the SIG SAUER P229 CPO for $579.95.
I bought one, they didn't last more than 36 hrs. on line if that.
I picked it up at my FFL this past Friday. It is in like new condition and came with two mags and a 1 year warranty.

I took it to the range this past Monday and put 377 rds. thru it. I had 1 FTF with Hornady 175 gr. Critical Duty FlexLock. A slight nudge on the rear of the slide and it was GTG.

It digested a variety of FMJ and HP ammo. ;)

Other than that, I had NOT one other problem with it. I didn't even have to make any adjustment to the RS. I found the P229 very accurate, as are most SIG pistols.

Sooooooooooooo niiiiiiiiice!
The FTF may have been caused by an occasional limp-wrist. SIGs usually need to keep the frame rails well lubed. And the extractor sping is also very tough. The combination of one or more of those things as well as a "short", "fat" and usually flat-nosed cartridge, like the .40S&W is, can induce a jam.

IMO, the FTF was due to the sharp angle of the bullet. Upon feeding they seem to jump and hit the top of the chamber and stop.
Trust me, my P229 was lubed well and I'm experienced enough not to limp wrist any handgun. ;)

So the options are a tough extractor spring and the "nature" of the cartridge ;).
Seriously, I have an old italian gun magazine and the giournalist who purchased a P229 as his personal carry weapon was experiencing FTFeeds at first; he removed the extractor, polished it on the contact surfaces, as well as the channel, and everything was 100% since. He stated that the spring was so tough that some little more resistance on the extractor action was causing the problem.

Congrats on a nice pistol at a nice price! A 229 is on my list, hopefully I can stumble onto a deal like that when I'm ready to buy.

That's a good looking gun. Congratulations.

I know most of the SIG fans like the old, stamped slide, internal extractor, models. I'm the other way. I'd prefer the milled slide, external extractor design like the P229. Good buy.

I'm a huge fan of SIG's CPOs and SIG pistols without rails. I passed on one of these CPO 229s in a local shop, went back, of course it was gone. Then I got the e-mail alert from TGS, and when I went to order one (that was a great price, by the way), of course, they were gone ...

Great pistol.

Great pistol.

I don't think they lasted more than 36 hrs.
The non-rail version is exactly what I wanted.

I'm fairly certain I will be replacing my 1986 vintage S&W 459 "pillow gun" with a 229 in the near future. I too prefer the one without the rail. Looks like you got a great deal. I'm jealous and hope I can find a similar deal once I am ready to make the purchase.

Are you going to pursue other barrels (9mm, 357 Sig) so you can make this one gun as flexible as possible?

No plans to do so at this time.
When I filled out the online warranty, I received a 20% off promo code. It is good toward a SIG .357 SIG barrel for the P229. This lowers the price to $159.20. ;)

JimC, nice buy. A no-rail 229, now that is one great pistol. I have had my 229 for 16yrs. and the first 8 or 9 yrs. it was a "beater" now it does house duty.
Having both barrels, I save the 357 barrel for show, that round is a little much for the house.

Top Gun Supply isn't too far from here. They have a storefront, it's not very big, but it looks more like an upscale jewelry store than a gun shop. They always have a ton of CPO Sigs. They have a cool display case of 'not for sale' special editions and P210's and stuff. Cool place.
