Sig P238 vs. S&W Bodyguard 380

FWIW I've had a BG380 for a few months now. It's been dead-nuts reliable since round 1 & has eaten everything I've fed it with ease. It's as accurate as it needs to be. The only less-than-ideal thing was that the laser buttons were hard to activate, but S&W has a new version & with a phone call they're mailing me the new set.

I've been really stalling on this decision until my local GS had these in as rental guns. This morning I called and they had recently brought both of them into their rental pool. I brought about 150 rounds with me and put about 75 rounds through each gun. (Full disclosure I also have a S&W M&P40C). Of 75 rounds, the Sig had 2 FTEs and the S&W was perfect. I found that most of my shots with the P238 were high but well-grouped while my shots with the S&WBG380 were very even but a bit more spread out. I found the performance of the laser to be very strange. One shot it would go off, the next, it would flip back on. So after 10 or so shots, I just turned the laser off. The P238 was very smooth to shoot and the BG took a bit more effort. All that said, there is something about that longer trigger pull of the BG380 that made me better able to determine when the gun would go "bang" and after a bit of getting used to it, I was better able to group shots. Maybe I'm just partial to S&W based on the flawless performance of my M&P, but I really did like the S&WBG more. To each his own! I think I'm going to buy the S&WBG and save the $300 from not buying the P238 and buy some CT grips for my M&P40c. That way, it'll feel like I got two new guns instead of one...

Good call. I have a BG 380 and it has been flawless. You do have to practice a lot with it to get used to the trigger pull, but once you've got that down - it's an accurate little gun with outstanding reliability. I really like what S&W did with it. They took the design of the little Kel Tec and LCP and, instead of copying it, they improved it (in my very humble opinion). If you want a little plastic pocket gun for your front pocket today, the BG 380 is now the best one out there.
