What handgun should I get first? I was thinking I should get my sig p229 in .40s&w with a .357 sig and/or 9mm barrel; and then in 2011 (centennial year of the 1911) I would finaly pick up my .45. So do you think I should get a sig or a 1911 first?

for calibers; its just prices

i chose the sig based on you wanting to get a 1911 in 2011. Either way, you will be happy with either of the guns.

You know what, You should just spring for both and make us all jealous!

Good choices, my two favorites, except I'd go with a P228 and then an SW1911; I'd go with the Sig first, then the 1911 - skeeter_08

I am back into 1911's and Highpower's these days. Have 11 1911's and 3 Highpowers.

I am down to only 4 SIG's.

I agree with Skeeter as I believe the 228 is simply the best of all the SIG's, and that makes it simply the "best".

And for goodness sake, don't get lost in the caliber wars. Any of those calibers you mentioned, 9,40,357, or 45 with good modern ammunition will do anything that a pistol can do. It's about software, not the hardware. Just make sure what ever you get is stone reliable. Hence the SIG 228.

Get the SIG. Then pick and choose your 1911 carefully. Remember if it ain't a Colt, it's only a copy. But I ain't prejudice.

Good luck.
