Does such a thing exist? I've always thought something like this would be pretty handy; it would have the advantages of a closed-breech weapon like a semi-auto, but be simpler to use and clean, and shorter for a given barrel length.
I know Rossi is making one now, but it looks very large and heavy; not what I'm looking for.

Stevens made single shot target pistols years ago. Ruger made a single shot pistol on the Blackhawk frame, but it wasn't a .22 rimfire. I don't know of any single shot .22s being made today.

Other then derringer type pistols?

No, not anymore.

Years ago, S&W, Colt, Hopkins & Allen, Hartford Arms, Stevens, and others made small to medium frame lightweight single-shots for target shooting and hunting/trapping.

Today, the T/C Contender with a .22 RF barrel is probably best known.

I have a Savage Arms Model 101, it's a single shot .22lr pistol from the 60s. A piece of junk, and a pain to load/unload, but still...

The idea's definitely been around for a while.

Here ya go - Colt Camp Perry, of course they aren't made anymore and they can get pricey, but it's a dream to shoot and blows peoples mind when they see it open. Smith and Wesson made a single shot too, but I haven't been able to talk my brother out of selling me his yet, so no pics of one.

Colt made 2,525 of those between 1920 and 1941; this one dates from 1926 if I can recall correctly. They came with a 10 or 8 inch barrel, the shorter being much more rare. This is the longer version. It's a neat old gun from a different era, and one of my favorites in my collection.

chicharrones, beat me to it but I was going to mention the
crickett as well.

I had one of these when I was a kid (12-14), kinda wish I still had it.
It's a Sheridan, "Knocabout" .22 cal. single shot. It was accurate and sturdy, easy to carry. I shot the heck out of it. Probably couldn't do it nowadays. Times have changed.
