Single-Six Problem!

I was out shooting the Single-Six (with LR cylinder), and suddenly the gun locked up after a misfire (which was the first in probably 700 rounds). I tried to cock the hammer again, but it would not move to full cock. I took the pin out to remove the cylinder and notice the small metal tip was missing. I found it and the spring without much fuss though.
This wouldn't be a big deal, but the silver metal tip cannot be placed back in the pin because it is too large! I'm not sure how it worked itself out in the first place, but it did. Not exactly happy with this situation, as it has been an amazing gun for the money. Not quite as accurate as I had hoped with LR, but that's the price you pay for versatility
Any help on how to put the tip back into the pin would be most appreciated. Plus, I need it to work right now since I can't find ammo for my Blackhawk

That little plunger and spring are staked in place. You will need to clean up (most likely ream) where the material was displaced on the base pin when it was originally staked, then reinsert the spring and plunger and stake them in place.


That said, you might want to give Ruger a call and see if they will send you a replacement base pin.

...or you could try an aftermarket base pin as they are slightly oversize and might improve you revolver's accuracy.

Thank you for the reply. Looks exactly like the correct diagnosis. Is this common on Rugers? Kind of disappointing from such a nice pistol. Everything else on it looks like it should have cost more than $330.
