I'm fairly new to skeet shooting. Tomorrow I'm going to look at an SKB 505 that I found in a local ad. 28" barrels, comes with 12 chokes (yes, 12!) and an extra youth stock (not on the gun). It's reportedly in excellent condition, approximately 10 years old. I want to also use this gun for partridge hunting. The seller is asking $850, which seems like a reasonable deal considering the plethora of chokes included. I'll see if there's any wiggle room on the price.

I've read good things about SKBs. I've been looking for an O/U for some time now and just haven't come across any decent deals, so I'm hoping this one works out.

Would anyone with experience or knowledge of SKBs chime in and let me know what you think - I know, I know, free advice and all that... - but I'm interested in hearing some opinions. Does this seem like a reasonable deal?

Thanks in advance.

Good guns.

My personal experience with SKBs is limited to a couple older 600s, the Ithaca imports.

I paid $450 out the door for one with fixed chokes,28" barrels in 20 gauge.

I shoot it very well.

A few minor probs, heck it's 40 or 50 years old. All rectified.

$850 is not a screaming deal, but not a ripoff either.

Enjoy.....

You're welcome, Jeff.

The 505 has a good rep. If it's light enough for easy toting, it'd probably work for Partridges.

I have had 2 505's, now down to one because I no longer own any 28 gauges, just 12 and 20s. My remaining 505 is a 20 gauge model with the brushed satin receiver. my oldest boy thinks it belongs to him; maybe one day it will - it comes up naturally for him and he shoots it well. Excellent guns, well made, and 28 inch barrels will do well on skeet and feathered targets.

$850 is a reasonable price for one in good condition

I'm shooting a couple rounds of skeet tomorrow. I'm ready to see how this thing shoots.

I own the 85TSS sporting clays 12ga and their 28ga field model. I have only put 8000 round through the 12ga so I have no idea how it will hold up over time. I can say that it has been an excellent shotgun and I am very impressed with it. New out of the box it closed and ejected smoothly, unlike many new "B" guns that I have seen. The "B" gun owners say a super tight lockup is a good thing, I think my SKB 12ga is built like a tank and easy to open.
