So I just bought my second SKS. She's Chinese and came to me without a bayonet or cleaning rod. No big deal. The two ran less than ten bucks here on the internet.

But here's my problem: the bayonet doesn't naturally rest in its housing in the stock. It's a spike bayonet and when I have it in the undeployed position it rests at a slight angle from the stock. When I wrap my hand around the forend the spike has no trouble moving the extra bit of space into the stock, but left to its own devices it rests a noticeable distance from the wood.

Any SKS experts care to suggest a fix?

2 things.

1 chinese spike bayonets had 2 sizes i believe. standard and para. i believe
or it could be the collar?

and 2, my more important contribution

im unsure of the legality of reaffixing a bayonet to a chicom that came in with out it.

If the stock is original chinese, you may have a rare-ish blade-bayonet type stock...but the fact that it came without the blade makes it a little less rare (at least that is what I have gathered based on my sojournings on the Intarweb). You oughtta holler at the boys over on www.sksboards.com cuz they are the experts.

Just make sure that the SKS was imported before the 89 ban that blocked them coming in with the bayonet attached. If you add it to one after this date, you will be breaking the law unless you change a bunch of parts to US made parts. The batfe makes it so you are responsible to prove it was imported before this date or you made it compliant.

any chance the mount, or the mounting end of the bayo or it's pin/post are a little bent (or maybe just a little loose, which is why you can move it into the slot really easy)? If you know someone else who has an sks with a spike bayo, try putting thiers on real quick and see what happens, probly the easiest way to tell.just a thought.
