Slick out there...be careful!

I was snowblowing on Saturday (process of blowing snow using a machine called a snowblower) and went to go backwards, underneath my feet it was pure ice. I did a fancy dance and recovered. You certainly can get hurt. When carrying out in the field, fall could get you hurt and/or worse. Keep it safe. Glad your ok.

Been below zero every night for at least the last 2 weeks. Haven't seen a day above melting point for some time. Lots of ice around. I fell on the ice emptying the garbage just about 2 weeks ago. It is only 3 steps outside the garage! Hit so hard I thought I tore the suture where my feed tube had been. Luckily nothing broken or torn but had some real sore joints for a few days. Super caution right now with every step!!! Today will be the 1st day it melts and that will help with SOME of the ice.

I have a old par off boots i screwed sheet rock screws in the sol, works pretty good.

Good boots when its up to your knees in snow are excellent. The screws are a good idea, but don't want to cause a leak. Its sleeting out there right now. Be slippery in the morning.
i put the screws in the tread on the side, i don't go through the sol. i use them for ice fishing and no leaks. we got about 4 inches here in walton, ill wait for morning then slid the ice off the snow.

Probably not a good idea to walk on the kitchen floor with the screws in the boot soles...wood floors either. I would think that sheet metal screws would be perfect! I think winter bikers use them in their tires, but put them in from the inside, then tape over them before installing the the innertube.

Not a lot of ice on the ground around here but if someone spills soap on the tile in the laundry room and you get out of the hot tub, put on flip flops to move clothes from the washer to the dryer, the floor can approach your face at half the speed of light...

Glad you weren't hurt!

being a toyota pickup :D

I love my 93, it will go anywhere. ..course at over very near 300k (speedo and millage havent worked since 08) I should probably be looking at getting a spare motor prepped to drop in.

Naw, that Toyota will run forever. I have over 300K on my 80 Series Land Cruiser and Over 200K on my LX470, both have their original engines and running gear, run perfectly.

. I landed on my back so fast I didn't know what was happening until I was down.

I had the same thing happen this year. Was walking on a heavily iced gravel path on the way to a powercut to play the ecaller. 16” AR, loaded, slung muzzle up... was too close to my head for comfort and snow in flash hider. Ill never keep a round chambered like that again either.

Rifle remained zeroed. Lesson learned. It was 9 degrees and gusting enough that my 62gr reloads spread horizontally at 100y on paper.

Still better than work

Our weather is wild but consistent. In the past week we have had rain and freezing, rain and cold, rain and warm, rain with wind, rain without wind, rain with sunshine, rain with darkness, and the worst of it all was the rain with rain.

The roads are not flooded but creeks are high, the yard is mud, I have had trees threatening to rootball and hit my house...aimed at my daughters bedroom... so that brought rain with chainsaw and rain with WK sliding down the hill in the yard on his busted and sore rear end with a chainsaw under me, in my lap, and even with the saw sliding down the hill after me. At least I’m smart enough not to warm up the saw while walking down the hill. Riding a running saw would be bad.

So... mid-management job, 2 girls and a wife, basketball practice, planting a new church... soccer starts soon. What is this hunting you speak of? Keep telling stories, I can at least read at night when the girls are in bed.

Hunting here on-hold. Not much legal to shoot, except pests on the bird feeders.

I'm getting the itch to get to the club range in Augusta, ME and do some rifle shooting. Hopefully next week will be the charm. Celebrating my birthday Saturday, but haven't decided on getting a new gun to celebrate.

Hope you all are warm and dry with these weird cross-country storms that seem to hit most states lately.

we got about 2 weeks left of small game in the southern area of ny. then turkey is next in spring, but don't know if ill do that, seems like when i turkey hunt all i see are deer lol. i do enjoy trout season start on april 1st.

I wish I liked eating wild turkey. Maybe I could find one already stuffed? It seems I could shoot one under the bird feeder at least once a week. It's not "sporting" though.

if killed for food it does not matter, i like to cut the breast out and soak them in italian dressing over night then cook on a nice hot grill.

I've got slip-on creepers that fit most boots, but didn't expect any ice under snow the day I fell. Being an ex-hockey player, I'm pretty good on ice and have quick feet, as long as I can see the ice. There was about an inch of powder on top of the ice, so didn't have any warning before my feet went out from under me.
