I bought one of those surplus Beretta Model 81s in 32 acp for my wife.

The original as-issued grips are a little too fat for her hands for best control. I swapped them out for the rubber "Indiana State Police" grips, mainly because I got them really cheap.

Those improved her grip somewhat, but it looks to me like they could still be made thinner.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

When I had my Beretta Model 84 (same gun as your Model 81 but only in .380), I tried several different grips, including the factory wood ones and Pachmayr Signature grips. The original plastic grips were okay (and maybe the thinnest), but they tended to feel kind of slippery after you held the gun for awhile. The wood ones were slightly thicker and the Pachmayr wraparound grips were also a bit on the wide side if you left the connecting middle section attached. If you cut it off then they felt better and a little more secure than the hard plastic factory grips.

If you like the Beretta design you might also want to look into getting your wife a surplus Beretta Model 85 in .380 for around $350 to $370. It has a thinner grip frame as it's a single stack magazine design with the magazine holding 8 rounds.

I really like the LOK grips on my 81. I wear Medium gloves and the stock grips were not bad, but slightly too large. I really like the look of the wood grips but everything I read said they were actually wider. So I picked up the LOK thin grips and I’m really happy with it. It’s not a lot thinner but it really makes a difference for my hands.
