Can anyone think of a situation where you'd prefer to keep your SD shotgun loaded w/ slugs instead of buckshot?

Does anyone here prefer using slugs in their SD shottie instead of buck/birdshot?

Can anyone think of a situation where slugs would not be a good SD load?

Thanks in advance...

I prefer slugs -
Yes it does depend on some things...still prefer slugs.
I base this on pattern boards, range effectiveness of shot. buckshot and Task.

My decison was based on:
-In business setting where range might exceed the effective shot pattern of buckshot. Buckshot is near to short, Slug is near , short, medium and a bit more. Greater versatility of range and lead effectiveness.
-Difference of buckshot vs slugs on critters ( hunting)
-Collateral damage of multi pellets ( bystanders)
-Body armor worn by perps[ won't penetrate, will have enough energy to leave an impression, head shots are next.
-Testing done on car doors, glass, windshields, back glass, pallets, bldg materials [ In the event say for instance a friend has a warehouse setting, one of the security concerns from real life happenings, BGs using vehicles to enter warehouse and using vehicles for cover, using warehouse normal surroundings for cover/concealment. Yes he also has rifles handy for this in 45-70, 30-06 for this security need also]
- I know what a slug will do at 50 yds , on out to say 100yds. IF the only weapon handy is a shotgun, slugs work well for this.

I prefer #4 Buck in my HD shotty, but that is a factor for where I live. My problem with slugs is overpenetration. A slug could easily penetrate a perp and then continue from there. Let alone if I missed.

I think of my shotgun as my standoff weapon. If the SHTF and I need to barricade myself inside a room or an area, my shotgun, loaded with buck, is almost ideal. If I need to reach out and touch someone at 50-150 yards, I have an SKS that is much better then a shotgun for that.

I mix the slugs & #3 buckshot in the magazine.
I live in a rural setting and want the capability to put one through the wall if the situation calls for it. I use a handgun for primary with the shotgun as a backup. That's different than what some others do, but inside the house I feel the handgun gives me quicker response and is faster to put into action.
