Guys,
I have never shot slugs thru a full-choke gun. I have heard others say that it is a great way to have erratic and inaccurate patterns, even at 15 yds or so.
What experience have any of you had with shooting slugs thru a full choke barrel?
It would seem that with a rifled slug that the full choke constriction would mash the riflings down and there goes whatever accuracy. However, what I think is not necessarily so. That is where y'all come in, to show me the light.
thanks,

In modern shotguns, say those built after WWII, Forster style slugs can safely be fired through any choke at all, save perhaps the extreme turkey chokes.

Forster developed his slug in the 20s to swage down going through chokes and not ruin the barrel as did the older "Punkin Ball" loads sometimes did.

That "Rifling" is actually a crush area to swage down in the bore. It doesn't spin the projectile even if left like new.

That doesn't mean these will shoot into nice neat little groups. Most Full chokes do not treat slugs well, oft sending them off course badly.

But, like many things in Shotgunland, there's exceptions. The two tightest slug groups I ever saw were done with a Full choked 16 gauge Model 97.

Get a messa 5 packs, bench test until you've got the best grouper picked, then buy lots of that one, all from the same lot.

That's IF it's a modern, well made shotgun....
