Fella's I need help! I bought a 1903A3 smith corona for something to shoot. Brought it home and figured out that it has a 6 groove savage barrel, intsalled by smith corona. is this a collector or just a schooter supposedly there were only 5,000 of these made. according to tht N R A artical I read. Any help wpould be greatly appritiated.

The non standard six groove Savage/HS barrel is a added value subvariant 03A3, but still a shooter. The two groove is more uncommon, used for one month, 11-43. No reported number of these used.

I got a similar one from the CMP earlier this year, with a 6-groove barrel marked S C 6-43. It doesn't look like it was ever shot much, the muzzle gauges as a 1.5. I'd say shoot it and enjoy it.

from what I know it is very hard to find a completely original rifle as most have been re arsenaled.

The rifle looks like new. The barrel is great. The only thing a guy might whine about is, the previous owner refinished the stock. He did a really great job, the walnut wood is beutiful. But, he sanded the proof marks off so the stock is smooth and clean with no markings that I can see. Made in January 1943. I'm in lust with it.
