I found one at a pawn shop today, tagged at $650. I didn't get it, but I'm interested.

Barrel looks pretty clean. Bluing is OK but not great, and finish has a few dings here and there. Cylinder opens and closes easily, and it appears to lock up well when hammer is cocked. Ejector star works well.

What else should I for for in this revolver? What's your opinion of the price?

Thanks.

Sounds high, but I haven't been following prices lately. There are tons of them out there. They are great guns and you won't be sorry if you pick one up.

Probably a bit on the high side, but most places price on the high side trying to stay ahead of the curve. Offer less. What's the worst thing they can do? Say no?

No box or papers I assume? Does it have target hammer, trigger, trigger stop? Looks like Walkalong's gun has all three. Those would raise the price. Only you can say if they matter to you. I would like to have them, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker. Lack of them would be a negotiating point. Stocks should be Magna's like Walkalong's. I'm not sure if they should number to the gun or not...Smith & Wesson stopped doing that at some point. Again, not a deal breaker, but lack of original type grips again would be a negotiating point.

They are great guns. I've owned a couple, but I've come to the conclusion that I just don't care for 6" barrels, so they've been sold/traded off. I do have three of the 4" barrel Model 15's. Same gun, just shorter barrel.

If you're not sure how to check out a revolver mechanically, check the reference library sticky at the top of the page here. There is a sticky in that on how/what to look for.

I'm in DFW portion of Texas and they are scarcer than you would think in LGS places I have seen recently. However, I have been following on line (Gunbroker mainly) and I think that price may be high. The gun in the picture that Walkalong posted might not bring that much but like he said they are out there at least on line and they are great guns.

K frames are so sweet and that 6" target barrel in the 14 is a classic in my opinon. Just check on line for a week or two and see for yourself.

:):)

I've seen at least a couple of these lately on my favorite classified site.
Here's a 14-3 made in '68, for only $399. It's got some finish issues, but looks to be solid otherwise.....

Here's a much nicer one, a 14-2 made in '64, with original target grips, for the same $650 as the one you're looking at.

(Both guys are forum veterans with 100% feedback ratings, but neither seem interested in shipping).

I paid $300 for my 4th model hand ejector target and that was high when I bought it.
Gun is worth about $1500 now.
I paid $250 for my 14-3 and that was too much when I bought it.
Guess I did OK for buying too high and hanging on to my stuff...

I saw one today at the gun show in about 98% condition. Target trigger and hammer, and they were asking $650. I really thought about it...

I bought my 14-2 used in 1985 and it is one of my most accurate handguns. With its Patridge sight and six inch barrel it is a dedicated target gun that finds limited interest in the shooting community. Four inch revolvers in Magnum calibres and ramped front sights for holster work find more widespread interest.

I think that a good price for a S&W M14 is below $550, despite hopeful sales ads confusing the M14 with the M19, which did cost about 20% new and this also being reflected in used values.

Buy it.

If its in good shape to shoot and isn't a embarrassment to show in the light of day.
Its about $50.00 higher then what I paid. I bought online and ended up paying more for shipping and the FFL deal.
You can buy one for less, but you can shoot this one tomorrow.
You would be hard pressed to find a nicer gun to enjoy while punching paper. Get a wad-cutter mold and reload your own. Cheaper then buying 22LR.
