Why not try a Colt "Magnum Carry". Where? Hold it still and I'll buy it.

If you are looking for some light weight carry fun then don't forget the 41mag. I own a Taurus titanium 5 shooter in this caliber. It shoots great even with full loads and is suprisingly accurate. I don't like the ports in the bbl. but it's probably necessary. It would probably be a bit too "sporty" without the porting. The "ribber" grips are kind of weird but you get used to them and absorb some of the recoil. It is also really light for the caliber so all of my experiments with cast bullets have failed. It is basically a kinetic bullet puller and the bullets back out of the other 4 chambers from recoil.

Good luck.....

Lately I have been carrying a S&W model 649 Bodyguard in .357 with a
2-1/4" barrel in a front pocket holster. It fits in the front pocket of my jeans and dress pants, but is heavy. I like the .357 but will probably switch back to a lighter gun in .38 for carry. Depends on how much weight you are willing to haul around with you.

I'll second the SP-101. I keep it loaded with Winchester SXT +p's for general carry. The recoil isn't too bad that way but even moderate .357 handloads have a pretty good kick; I've heard that 125 grain .357 loads are manageable.
Actually I think early -101's were marked for 125 grain loads.
Only gripe I have is the front sight being black...first time I shot it at the range the front sight was hard to see against the black target and it was all over the paper. I painted it bright orange with model airplane enamel.

I am in agreement with those who recommend the 2.5" or 3" K-frame S&W over the SP-101. I don't find the size diffeence significant, and the K frames are easier for me to shoot, particularly on D/A.

If there's a need for a smaller gun, my preference is one of the LW "J" frames.

IMHO the S&W Model 40 Centennial is the very best snubby ever made. It is the perfect concealment revolver. I have two original ones with the grip safety. My carry load is a 125 JHP at 1,250 FPS. I do not find this load particularly wimpy in the recoil department when fired from this small pistol.

I would be very interested in what you shoot out of yours. I was just given one, and I am anxious for some more info on the model, and what to shoot in it since I reload.

I am assuming from the descriptions I have been able to find on the net that I have a Model 40:

I owe my life to a 1972 vintage S&W Model 40 that I carried for over ten years.
The only thing I didn't like about it was that blasted gripo safety. It would pound the hell out of my hane even with mid-range wadcutter loads.
I removed it and put a set pf Pachmayr Compacs on it.

I put a wide target trigger in it and it was wicked accurate in double action.

It was the best pocket gun I've ever seen.

Snubby

Hello
I carry a hard to find model 631. This was made from 1990-1993. They made only 5000 of them in three models offered. This round is the .32 H&R magnum. It is a good round. It will exceed the .38 plus-P if hand loaded correctly. It is also low in recoil and report. Best regards, Hammerdown.

If getting a snubby, I'd go small, a 5 shot 38 is perfect in my opinion. I have one, a Taurus M85UL. Great little gun. I carry it in the woods and on the farm. +P are plenty hot if you think you really need it. I like the 357, but think it is better in a 4"-6" barrel. It is easy to conceal, ammo is dirt cheap and there are tons of different loads available.

Nope. I have a pair of Ahrend's grips on my 629MG, and DHart uses them allot on his great postings.

My 686 has Eagle Heritage Smooth Woods. The 66 also has Eagle Heritage Smooth Woods, and the GP-100 has Eagle Classic Smooth Woods.

I find the Eagles a little thicker then the Ahrend's which is what I like. I also use there Heritage checkered woods with a couple of my revolvers. They look allot like the checkered grips SW used to put on their guns, back along.

Hope this helps...

Hey BullRock... those guns rock! Great looking grips too... thinkin' I might have to git me a pair a them for my GP-100's!

(Where I've been? I've been a little pre-occupied with my semi-auto shotgun addiction lately!)

Here's what the Ahrends round to square without finger grooves look like... no doubt, I'm quite a fan of Ahrends grips!
