I'd like a 1911 compact/commander size OWB holster that holds the grip up snug against my body. FWIW, I carry a Sig C3 4" and Colt New Agent 3 1/2". My current holster, made locally, has a loop on each end and does a fairly good job except the grip is not as snug as I'd like.

Any recommendations?

I like my Alien Gear OWB. I use it on a 5' 1911. Very snug to the body. The angle is not adjustable, but I like it as is.

The belt is the foundation of a good carry holster. Make sure you have a good gun belt to start with. At a minimum, something like a Wilderness Tactical 5-stitch Instructor belt. ( http://www.thewilderness.com/tactical-belts/ ) Most leather holster makers will make a belt that will work optimally with their holsters.

Look for a holster that has a trailing loop as found on pancake and Nelson #1 Professional/Avenger (think Milt Sparks 55BN) style holsters. A pancake holster typically will hold the gun closer to the body than any other style of OWB holster. However, much depends on the quality of the product, and the belt too. I think FBI cant, will also help as will wearing the holster aft of 3:00, more in the 3:30 - 4:00 area.

High Noon has some good holster info in their FAQ section. Read FAQ #40 on offset molding http://www.highnoonholsters.com/faqs/

Galco has the opposite opinion on offset molding, actually using the same pictures to make the opposite point https://www.galcogunleather.com/concealable-belt-holster_8_4_1064.html

Mitch Rosen discusses the same with the 5JR and President http://www.mitchrosen.com

Horseshoe Leather has some good holster design info http://www.holsters.org/holster-design.htm

Does Kydex cause more wear on the gun finish, especially a blued gun, than leather? It would seem so to me, but I have never had a Kykex holster.

Both leather and kydex will put wear on your pistol, especially a blued pistol. Kydex will typically do it faster but in specific spots. Leather will do it slower, but usually over more surface area.

Getting that first scratch on you gun is always tough, but once you get over it, I think a well worn blued 1911 is a good looking gun.

Here's a picture of Tiger McKee's well worn 1911 https://shootrite.wordpress.com/2010/09/19/1911-modifications/

Take a look at the De Santi Speed Scabbard. Available with or without thumb break. I like the without.

Wright Leatherworks Predator. I have that holster for a Glock, a Commander and a Springfield EMP, and all of them are very well made and definitely hold the pistol very snug to the body.

El Paso Saddlery Tortilla + good gun belt or any quality pancake holster + good gun belt.

You keep writing UGB even across a few forums. I was sure it was a typo and you meant UBG, but since you keep writing UGB even after I've commented on it, now I'm beginning to wonder if, in fact, there is a UGB Holster Company.

This is the UBG (Ugly Bald Guy) Holsters company I'm familiar with http://www.ubgholsters.com

Do you have a link for UGB Holsters?

JTQ,
You have my apologies...both for not seeing your post and for the repeated typos. Thanks for catching the mistake and for being polite about it. Again my apologies and thanks.
