I just inherited my dad's 10/22 for a total of 9, if you count my unfinished AR lower and my .22 kit for the 1911.
I try to keep the ethic that I will only keep as many guns as I can shoot regularly. But I will admit that I haven't been able to keep or afford ammo for all of them lately. I will also say that I know guys with over 100 guns who shoot them all and keep proficient with all of them. I don't keep safe queens, 'collector's items', commemoratives, investments, or 'pretty' guns.
I have spoken to non-Americans about guns, and I tell them I have about ten, and their eyes go wide, until I explain to them that you can't use one gun for everything. There are different uses, ranges, sports, etc. Then they said it was more reasonable.
