So earlier I sold a few safe queens and headed to my local dealer. Tough decision ive ever had to make. After ruling out a new ruger sr1911 I had it down to two. A new Sig 220r or a used Sig gsr 1911. I would love to go back and get the gsr since it was only 600 (used) but I ended up with the 220. Got it on sale with the gun, a box of Hornady xtp a box of gold dots and 100 rounds of blazer fmjs all for 820 out the door. :D I havent gotten to take it to the range yet but for any of yall who own or have owned one what did you think about it? Also, anyone who had owned one of the GSR's, should I go back and snatch it up for 600 while I got the chance or should I pass?

Congrats on your new P220 and a great deal too it sounds like.

I have had a P220 since 1997 and what a sweet shooter. IMO definitely one of the finest .45 pistols ever made and well worth the investment.

Enjoy shooting it!

If there is what looks like a tiny manhole cover on the right side aft on the slide, thats a first gen GSR. Those were hit or miss on quality. If is a GSR Revolution, no manhole cover, its easily worth $600. The Revolution series were sold as having no MIM or plastic parts, unlike the other 1911 clones. Sig sorta drifted away from that since.

Once you get through the fact it is not a 1911, the P220 is a truly wonderful .45 pistol. I've enjoyed a number of them through the years and still smile while plinking with them. Once they are broken in, they become part of your hand. Enjoy it.

The manhole guns are great guns too. They made GSR Revolutions with the manhole also.

Congrats on getting a great gun and a great deal. Never should have traded my Browning BDA (early P220); should have picked up the .38 Super version too as dealers practically had to give those guns away.

I used to own a P220 w/ Sig NS, a terrific service pistol on it's own merits. And although I like full sized 45's I like my Gen4 Glock 21, my HK45, and my 1911's better. Personally, I like the P227 better than the P220, just "MHO". But a good 1911 will always be my first choice, and a GSR for $600 sounds real tempting and there's always room in the gunsafe for 1 more.

I had a very early Sig 220, the Browning .45BDA I bought used in 1980. It certainly was a better and more reliable pistol that the Colt Series 70 that I carried at the time.

The downside to the Sig for me was ergonomics. This old Sig had a butt-heel mag catch that was slow. I also did not like the decocker mechanism.

That said, this early P220 would outshoot the Colt in accuracy, and never had a problem with feeding, extraction, or any other jam type problem with any ammunition, ever.

If you want an accurate and reliable .45ACP, the Sig is about as good as it gets.

I am considering trading my Sig 226 for a Sig 220, mainly because I can shoot a 45acp better than I can a 9mm and I only have one 45 and 4 9mm's

He bought a SIG Model 220, not a SIG 1911. No "manhole" covers on the 220.

Right, I was answering the question asked:
Also, anyone who had owned one of the GSR's, should I go back and snatch it up for 600 while I got the chance or should I pass?
In that I own a Sig GSR 1911 I thought it appropriate to answer the question.

You will grow to love after you shoot about 6 mags. thru it. Lots of guys on Sif forum have them and are well pleased with them.
