So I get a smoking deal on this slug gun. What slugs are you all using.

My Remington 11-87 with a cantilever rifled barrel loves 2 3/4" Remington Copper Solid sabots. 3 inch groups at 100 yards with them. I bought about 10 boxes when I figured out what it liked and don't even know if they still make them anymore. Indiana has since become a rifle hunting state so I never use my shotguns for deer anymore.

Cast and load slugs if you want to save lots of money. The cheapest way is to buy a slug mold and a roll crimp maker. Buy a box of cheap bird shot and dump the shot out, melt it into a slug, cut off the crimp on the shell and roll crimp the slug in. This requires no shotgun press.

Second. Cast a slug and go to a local trap range and dumpster dive for free hulls. Wads from bpi and powder from where ever you prefer. This should be done with a press but doesn't have to be if you roll crimp.

For accurate loads go to bpi and buy components to assemble. Definitely need a press for consistency.

some recipes can even be fold crimped. I had decent results using the Lyman sabot mold a few years back (the slugs that look like giant air rifle pellets.)

That’s a real nice slugger there. With a mounted Leupold to boot? SOLD!

I don’t have a rifled-barrel slug gun, my rifle-sighted 870 shotgun is a smoothbore. In this I shoot Winchester 1oz segmenting slugs (Foster style) for HD...and they work so well in this role Id still use them if I deer hunted with it.

Stay safe.

My (870) and Daddy's (1100) slug guns do well with Remington accutips in the 2 3/4 size. My 870 is in a 3 inch but Daddy's is 2 3/4 but both shoot lovely at 100 yards. The slugs are about 5 dollars every time you pull the trigger.

If you want to go the casting route, I can post some pictures of what a Lee 1 oz slug can do with my recipe at 50 and 100 yards.... Groups are not as tight but will definitely save you money.

Winchester BRI sabot slugs or Hornady SST. I sold my 1100 rifled barrel and got a 20 gauge rifle, the Savage 220 which is lights out with Remington Accutips.

How much do you want to spend?
My 12ga 1187 cantilever barrel is smooth with choke tubes. Even with a rifled tube, Nothing really shot better than the garden variety Foster slugs from Rem, Win, Federal, PMC, Rio, or Lee cast reloads. Killed a few deer with it. Missed and/or lost several too! My Rem 870 20ga rifled barrel w/sights was little better

I’ve now got a Mossberg M220. Wow!
It shoots 8” at 100yds with a Lyman cast sabot slug in AA-style wad over LongShot. Federal “economy” “PowerShok” 7/8oz sabot slugs shoot ~4” at 100yds. Killed several deer with them. All but one, DRT (dead, right THERE!). About $1.25each.... not too expensive, but only seasonaly available. (Not the common Foster style slugs, true .54”sabot slug.).

Finally, I splurged and bought some Remington AeroTip Sabot slugs. $12.95/5, plus TAX. Nearly $4.00 a shot. But, they shoot +/-2” groups at 100yds.
Now, if a deer will cooperate...
BTW, it “gags” on Hornady SST Sabot slugs. 2/5 keyholed at 50yds. Wouldn’t hit berm at 100yds. Buddies gun shoots them 3-4” at 100yds. Gave stash of Hornady’s to him. Also, not cheap...!

You want to save money, buy a Lyman saboteurs slug mould and reload. Won't be great but will work. Try Federal TruBalls. They shot 3" @ 50 out of my 11-87 rifled barrel.

I load and shoot these. A one ounce BPI Thug Slug in a RMC brass hull.
The target....only at 50 yards. There are four shots in that lower hole. 090DC22C-DC98-47E0-8131-8E05B0C2BD81.jpeg
