Don't you just hate the threads that start out like that? You just know that somebody found a great deal, the likes of which you'll never see in a million years...

Well, it finally happened to me. I was in a local gun/pawn shop, and happened to see a S&W M41 sitting all alone on the absolute bottom display shelf. It was in what looked to be an original S&W factory blue box and appeared to be OK, so I asked to see it. What I found was an A- prefix gun dating to 1981 in what looked to be new condition, with its correctly numbered box (in great condition), with a second magazine (also like new), all of the original paperwork, and even the tool kit with screwdriver... all for a $600 asking price. I figured if I'd already been this lucky, I might as well ask the dealer if he'd take $50 off the price. Well, he said "Yes", and here she is:

Now I just hope she shoots as good as she looks!

I recently saw one at the local Gander Mountain in their used cabinet, but not nearly as nice. their asking price was $800, so I would think you got a good deal.

Nice! I got one way back in the 80's to shoot Bullseye with. Found it at a gunshow for $575 and no tax and I think it's a 70's model. The trigger on mine is superb and my scores immediately went up about 10 points average just because of that compared to the Ruger MK II I was using. You gat a deal.

I once visited knifemaking legend Bob Loveless (RIP) at his shop and when we discussed guns he said he had 3 M41's - he liked them that much.

You stole it for that price!

I've been wanting a 41 for years but I have yet to snag one for a decent price, congrats to you.

Well, I took my new-to-me M41 to the indoor range today with a couple boxes of CCI Standard Velocity ammo. Wow! I've read about the M41's "broken glass rod" trigger break, but wow. This gun is seriously better than I am. But the best part is that I honestly feel that, if I practice and focus on what I'm doing, it will make me a better shooter.

Great buy,I used one in competition for many years. I might suggest that you find a set of springs for it and it will last for ever. (after enough shots the main spring will get weak enough to give misfires)
Congrats

TGReaper, with your experience I'd like to ask a couple of questions...

Wolff says that the standard recoil spring weight for the M41 is 7-1/2 lbs. They also offer "calibration sets" with springs that weigh 6, 6-1/2, and 7 lbs. Assuming I'm using CCI Standard Velocity 40gr ammunition, what purpose would the lower-weight springs serve?

Also, they offer an 8 lb recoil spring. Would this be for HV (high velocity) rimfire ammunition? Not that I ever plan on shooting them in my M41, but it might be a necessary option someday. I assume I'd also need to get a recoil buffer if I went the HV route.

Your insight would be very valuable to me. Thanks!
