So what's the consensus on the FN49 Argentine Navy's from SOG?

They want $650 for them with one magazine. .308, detatchable 20rd mag.
Do you guys think it's worth it, or should I pass it up?

Second hand info, but I was thinking of buying one. I searched around all the C&R boards and found that almost everyone who ordered one was dissapointed. They are apparently kinda beat, inaccurate and unreliable.

Consider this: SOG's had them for about a year. If they were any good, they would have sold them out a long time ago. Decent .308 battle rifles are very popular.

A buddy bought one several months ago and it was a pig. He sent it back. Stock looked only "ok" and the bore was "frosty".

For $650 you should expect (as he did) an outstanding example of this rifle. There's no burgeoning FN49 collector market out there anyway.....

$650 is cheap for a FN 49. Most of the ones you'll see are the Egyptian 8mm version & they go for around $800 depending on condition.

Who is selling 8mm FN 49's for $800? I just bought one for $300 and thought that was only just about $100 low.

I like the looks of the FN49 and almost shelled out the money for one myself, until I saw spare .308win magazines selling for $40. Then I read some "reports" of the FN49 firing out of battery. I haven't a clue how accurate this is, but I decided to wait until a more decisive consensus developed.

Maybe where you live..... here they're lucky to get $300 for an egyptian.... the odd ball ones in 7x57 and such bring a bit more....

I'm accepting finders fees!!! anyone willing to pay the prices you're quoting, PM me please!!!

In the last year I've seen exactly 2 FN49s locally. An Egyptian at my gun dealer that had a price tag of $700 & sold in less than a week & an Argentine at a gun show that sold for $850 before I had a chance to come back with cash. Also, I've never seen one sell for anywhere near $300-$400 on the internet (If I had I've have one :D ) Tell you what, in about a month I'll have enough gun money to buy one. How about one of you guys hook me up with a nice $300 dollar rifle, I'll even pay you $20 finder fee.

The C&R guns in my area generally suck. Unless you want to pay $50 more than you can order the same gun from AIM you're pretty much outta luck unless something interesting comes in on consignment & then it's usually overpriced & sold almost as soon as it hits the shelf.

If you think they're scarce and worth $600 bucks or so, then a $200 finders fee would be more appropriate... that way you can feel like you're saving $100 or so...

:D :D :D

sog junk

the fn49 308 rifles with detachable mag that SOG is selling are complete junk. i've read several posts on several boards from people that actually purchased them and each person that bought one was dissatisfied with the condition the rifle was in. rust, pitting, worn finish, frosty bores, etc were among the many complaints. your best bet is to stay far away from SOG junk unless you like throwing away money. if the rifles had been in good condition 600 would have been a good buy because fn49 rifles in 308 with detachable mag are supposedly rare. take care and shoot safe

Racenutz - not sure I follow - if a rifle comes in to a shop on consignment and it sells right away I would tend to think it was undervalued. Be careful about the SOG's.
