My 10mm components arrived this week -
10mm.jpg

New Starline brass
180gr Hornady HAP and FMJ-FP
and a Glock 20 Gen4
I have enuff LP primers and the following powders: W231, Power Pistol, HS-6, H-110, Unique, 2400, AA#9, Tite Group, Lil Gun and Trail Boss.

I plan to try AA#9, Unique and, maybe, some HS-6. Thinking about some AA#7 - don't have any yet.
I do favor powders that fill the case well.

10mm is new to me in reloading but have loaded 45ACP and most revolver carts - 357 thru 500S&W Mag for many years. Rifle too (223 and 308).
Anyone any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks!

Blue Dot makes a nice bang! I also use some Titegroup, PowerPistol, and Unique. Very versatile round. Lots of load data out there.

If you get the yearning, Roze Distribution has 180gr JHP Zero brand bullets in stock for $149/1000. That’s my “go to” bullet for Springfield XDm 10mm.

Your Glock will enjoy anything you feed it.

I think 10mm is my favorite round now. I think I need a Ronin next.

I suggest getting a box of 10mm factory loaded ammo as a standard. that’s what I do

Important Edit! See Below

I use a 180gr FMJ-FP from RMR, with 7.0 to 7.2gr of Unique for my range load. A CCI 300 primer, starline brass, and a COAL of 1.250". Feeds perfectly in my Gen 4 G20 with both the stock barrel and KKM 5.0" barrel.

I got curious just this afternoon and ran it through Quickloads. But I used a Speer 180gr TMJ-FP for the data. Even 7.2gr was comfortably under the max pressure limit. Velocity between 7.0-7.2gr was calculated at 1150-1170fps (I'm rounding a little) with the barrel length input at 5.0".

I haven't chronographed it yet, because as I said, it's a range load. I suppose you'll want to know about accuracy. I keep rounds inside 6" offhand at 25 yards, slow fire I'm no bullseye shooter, and that pretty average for me and a Glock. The load is better than the store bought range fodder I've put through my G20.

I just ran the same data with the Hornady FMJ-FP 40047 and 7.2gr is over pressure at 1.250" COAL. Even a 1.260" COAL it's right at the edge.

I checked the HAP 40042B, at 1.260" COAL with 7.2gr of Unique, and it's at 31.5K PSI. But the FMJ-FP is almost 37K loaded the same way.

Apparently the FMJ-FP (according to Quickloads) is a fair bit longer than the HAP, or XTP-HP.

It seems the Hornady FMJ-FP is called out as measuring 0.687" in length, but the HAP is only 0.641", and the XTP 0.622". You might want to double check those for yourself.

It's no wonder there's so much conflicting data for a 180gr jacketed bullet in 10mm.

Sorry for all the edits. Do work up cautiously.

I bulge Busted my 10mm brass last night. It just felt right

I've been loading for the 10mm since back in the late 80s. One thing I could suggest is to find an accurate load that get close to the velocity level you are looking for and is shy of the top end listed load.

This will or should give you some leeway when you run accross differences in bullet lengths and jacket materials. I also found by trial and error that the once plentiful Win 180gr JHP'S shot right with the Speer GD of the same weight with my standard hunting load. That made practice much more affordable being able to use the cheaper bulk bullets rather than the higher priced GD's. That said, that particular combination also worked well as a stand by for hunting.

I chose AA-9 due to finding it preformed well at the temp changes we experience in South and East TX. I get just over 1300fps from my 6 and 7" barreled 10's and have room to go load wise if wanted. With a shorter barrel somewhere in the 1100-1250fps range would be a good area to work towards depending on components used.

I did find that the XTP had a harder jacket material than other brands which did bump up pressure enough I experienced primers starting to square off in the pocket. I haven't seen that with any other components used with the same load. Just something to consider when you are working on development.

I've shot every weight available from manufacturer's from the light 135's up to 200gr and settled on the 180gr due to getting the best consistent velocities and accuracy overall. With my purposes being hunting whitetail deer and feral hogs, this has served me well on many occasions.

Good luck with your loads, be safe and have fun.
